I've used braid for everything except panfish, always thought the non stretch wouldn't be the best on crappie with there paper mouth.
I am thinking of trying it this year, what weight and brand do you all use.

I use Power Pro Slick 8 in the 8 pound test 1 pound Diameter. I like it in the Moonshine color. I have used it for quite a few years now
I use 6# Tuff line with a 4# flouro leader.
For casting purposes I've used Power Pro 10/2 hi vis .... and I don't "jerk" to set the hook, just keep reeling and sweep the rod away from the fish about a foot. Never used a leader with this one. I tie directly to the jig with a Improved Clinch knot (now that the braid is no longer new/slick). When it was new, I tied a double wrap Granny Knot in the tag end, after tying the Improved Clinch but before snugging it down tight. That way, once I did start cinching the knot closed & the line "slipped", it would pull that Granny Knot against the Improved Clinch & slipping stopped.
A "Double Wrap Granny Knot" is simply making a loop and wrapping the tag end thru that loop twice.
I'll probably go with 8lb power pro, pp has always been good to me I've been using it since it came out back when they were one of my first Sponsors when I was in junior bassmasters.
Think they Jbraid 8 strand is pretty cheap, pp slick 8 is just to pitchfork me after awhile they cast the same anyway.
I use 8 lb power pro white or Nanofil ice then an alberto knot with a 6 or 4 lb leader depending on water clearness
Will you be casting? Or jig pole ?
I tried 5-15 lb test with my 12 and 14ft jig poles and it was a a complete failure , due to the way I fish.
Too many tangles.
But I’ve gone to heavy hi vis braid (50lb test ) and tying to a 8-10 lb mono leader using the Alberto knot. This is working great

Casting, I don't have a boat anymore and don't have many places I can poke around shore with a long jigging pole. I was thinking of getting a BnM telescopic cane pole to mess around from shore, there cheap so why not. I can see how light braid may tangle jigging tho.
Use Kastking: 8lb test is 4 lb diam. Casts a 1/28 oz jig + plastic lure 40' and longer with the wind.
Hercules is another good braid, but 8 lb test = 2 lb test diameter - too thin for my liking and use instead 10# test.
Both lines allow good lure action and strike sensitivity without a leader.
one thing for sure positive ,really light braid cuts really well into flesh
and the cuts from braid seem to be especially painful
Seen a guy loose 3 fingers with braid striper fishing, as someone that has had a finger cut off I can say a braid cut deep in the first knuckle on your pointer is worse then losing a finger lol.
learned years ago not to hold line on larger fish , seen a teenager about lose some of his fingers on an albacore off the coast of baja using braid. warned him before it happened not to hold his line in his hand and he of course as teens often do ignored me .
told him when they hit it's like a train doing 60 as it goes by ,thank goodness dad jumped in and cut his line before it got really ugly .
sure was scary , it happened really fast and at first i thought it was going to pull him over board .
albacore on spinning tackle really smoke up the water and thats a fact !
I've seen so much Sketchy stuff, mostly since I love going on party boats lol. Boat next to us one year in the drift even had a guy die from a sinker from one of the other boats, talk about bad luck. Seen guys on bluefish trips Wearing flip flop, caught a few guys about to lip a bluefish like a bass. I've had my share of braid cuts but know not to grab the line.
I'm sure a cheaper braid my be fine to use, there usually thicker and that maybe a good thing.
I use Nanofil with a swivel and fluoro leader. I have not had problems with hooks pulling out. I'm kind of worried Berkley might have discontinued it though. The chartreuse color and spools larger than 150 yards have gotten impossible to find.
I have liked the sniping braid so far.
I use a braid I got off Amazon called Calamus Bastion. Not real expensive but works very well. Last week I landed a 32 pound 4 oz blue catfish on 8 pound test. Don't think I'll be able to use this jig again....Attachment 415823
Yes, was would be an understatement. :Rofl But, it didn't break.

8/1 or 5/1 power pro with no leader in white when I can find it.
VARIVAS makes a variety of high quality, braid lines, including ultra-light braid.
Let me know more about the equipment you're using, and I'd be happy to recommend something.
Crappie.com forum members Alphahawk, StantheMan2567, and Yodie, among others, are familiar with some of the VARIVAS braid models, particularly the UL models. They post regularly in the Panfish, Bream, Brim/All Things Ultralight subforum.
