top fish is a male
Did the top fish take a ride in the livewell by chance?
Beautiful setting and real peaceful looking.

Beautiful morning there!
Neither fish were in the livewell. Both freshly caught for the pic, and released. I could not tell sex without cutting them open, which I dint. The darker one was caught in the super clear water here by Lake Griffin State Park. The lighter one was caught in the "not as clear" water in the main part of the lake. I love the colors of the fish that are caught out of the clear water.
Hmmm....so the one from the clear water had a suntan :biggrin
Pretty pics
I knew water clarity was the difference. Right now Crappie coming out of one of our lakes, that's muddied up a bit from the rains, have NO coloration markings on their sides .... they flat out WHITE. :Rofl
One has a suntan!
My dad was a pretty big bass fisherman when I was a lad. The ones we caught in clear water had deeper, richer color, but they were faded when we fished in chocolate milk. That's the explanation I was told, but I was told a lot of things when I was a kid.
Days that start with a good sunrise just seem to go better.
Nice fish Boss.
My lake, the same lake these fish came out of, used to be like pea soup with algae (before hurricane Irma, I always say Irma flushed the toilet, water got tons better after Irma). But the crappie I caught back then here were completely white. I'll try to find a pic.
Water temps. Also play a factor in fish coloration :highfive

These were caught on griffin way back when the lake was pea soup.

Must be the reason most of mine are void of the prettier colors
Neat post, I was guessing male/female first.
My lake is ultra clear and our fish are usually vivid.

I think the top one is a frustrated and spurned boy fish who did not get to finish attracting the the bottom plain girl fish who was looking at his brand new tuxedo colors and admiring him when suddenly a hook was in her braces and she was being taken by net. Fortunately for them they met a kind gentleman who spared them from going to Lake Crisco and they were able to reunite and live for a few minutes before that scenario repeated itself and a very hungry fisherman believed in "Catch -n- grease instead of catch -n- release. You can't beat a dead horse and teach it to run again. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :deadhorse

Water depth. Top one in shallow water. Bottom in deep water.
