My buddies Pflueger President has a click or tick when reeling slowly. If you go faster it's smooth as silk. Anyone know what could be the problem and how to fix? Thanks

First step I would do is pull it apart, clean, and lube it. Could be as simple as something in the gears
If it has an anti reverse lever kick it to off and reel both ways a few times and see if that does anything.

I know he opened and looked but I don't know if he cleaned and lubed it. It should be fairly good shape since he got it back not terribly long ago from Pflueger. He had another one that was a lemon and they finally sent him a new one. Its this one that has the tick now.
You’d think that a guy making a dollar a day in a Chinese factory would take more pride in his work.
The reel needs broke in, reel in a few slabs and it should be fine!Attachment 413542

Ok he said he has tracked it down. It’s coming from the bail somehow. He is working on finding a solution now.
Bail not closing all the way and hitting the release as it goes by?
I'm not sure, just know what he has been telling me. He said if he holds reel straight up vertically it is fine but when turned or angled it has the tick.... :dono
He will figure it out or break it....lol.
Should be a fairly easy fix now that he knows the location of the trouble
Just send it to me, I could use another pfluger for parts,,,,lol
I was just going to say they’re not that great a reel. Just affordable and pretty. The drags haven’t held up well in the smallest ones for me. Especially after they get wet. I’m currently giving the daiwa revros a try. Comparable in price and size and so far using it this season, no complaint so far. Time will tell tho.
Latest update.... he has figured it out and I think he slightly bent it and it is smooth with no tick now. Thanks everyone.
A little tick is alright as long as your reeling in a crappie each time :biggrin
That one I stepped on deck surfing a couple of months ago will never tick then. :Rofl
Get a Shimano Sahara , likely won't ever malfunction under the average guys use of it .
Nobody abuses reels harder than myself , I burn thru about all of them, but that said ,I have 2 twin Saharas and them things are what legends are made of, flat out .......
the numbers of fish that have fallen victim to them is not reality and they are still like the day I bought em back when.
ticking problem solved forever :Rofl
never saw the Sahara, but i can tell you about the Sedona i was happy when i bought it last year. and was much HAPPIER when i sold it a month later, 2 of my happiest days

I have 3 of the 1000 model and love them. Very smooth reels.
I have 13 Pflueger President 20’s and 25’s and I’ve never had a problem with any of them but maybe it’s because I have so many.
