Lake Naconiche Pics

This lake reminds me of what Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend looked like for years after they were made. Almost all the standing timber there is gone now, VERY little remains. It’s 20 minutes farther drive than the 23 minutes to Lake Nacogdoches which is my usual haunt, unless I go to one of the big lakes. It’s 692 acres and was impounded in 2008 and opened to the public in 2011 so it’s fairly new. 40’ max depth at the dam but the creek channels halfway up each arm are still 25’ or so. I went to fish but also take some pics for y’all so I decided to just scan up one arm taking a few pics as I went along. I thought I’d see bait balls farther up the creek as the water was 64 degrees but only saw 2 and no crappie almost to the boom they’ve put across it over a mile from the 1 ramp there to stop salvinia from moving farther down. The wind picked up before I could even idle that far. Weather had said 5 to 7 mph today but spellcheck must have got the weatherman. He must have meant 5 TIMES 7 mph! I just continued scanning to learn for the future and finally found LOTS of bait balls and a large school of what I’m sure were crappie over a fish habitat/attractor Parks & Wildlife put off a point near the dam in about 25’ of water but there were foot and a half whitecaps there by that time. I didn’t think I could keep a light jig or minnows on them so I didn’t bother. A t-rig worm with 1 oz weight would have been hard to fish there. I left shortly after and the only 2 other boats there this morning had already gone. A young man was launching when I left and I thought how much he must love to fish to brave that wind. I think I was young once but it’s been so long I’m not sure now!:biggrin
Enjoy the pics and maybe they will include fish next time. I think you can see that boom in one and at least one you can see large boulders on the steep bank. There are a good number of them like that there and underwater too on those banks.

That is some good looking flooded timber

Wish the lakes I fish here in Ohio had flooded timber like that.

Man that's the perfect size lake to master crappie fishing on. I would scan and mark each time out til I know that lake like the back of my hand. I am waiting for Bois D'Arc Lake to open up to fishing.

I remember hearing about Bois D’arc. What town is it near?

Its hard to scan up the creek. There’s still so much wood and brush either side the sonar beam only goes a short way. Anything past that is shadow. And it’s solid stumps most places so you can’t even use the trolling motor far before you’re on or blocked by timber. Maybe with a small tin boat you could move around a little better.

Not a lot here on the TVA chain of lakes either

I've fished this lake 3 times. It can be very tough for sure. It has some big black crappie. Oh by the way it's full of timber [emoji1787]

It's up near Bonham TX

Looks like a great lake to fish from my kayak. My local lake has very minimal timber or stumps.

If anyone goes there, the center of the creek channels are marked. But the creeks are very narrow. I know of 3 logs or stumps for sure that are in the “ boat lane”. You might clear them on plane but that’s hard because they twist and wind a lot.

That's a little scary

being mostly pines in that part of the world will cause timber to be less timber quicker .
the new side of the old amon carter is flooded hardwoods ,still standing in most of it like fork did when they opened it .
one thing for certain it also has some large crappie in in it and have heard tales of extra larges in the mix.
it is also small , it is also connected to the old side of the lake via a huge culvert that runs under the highway .
the state used to keep creel numbers on crappie on the old side and it is very productive .
try a visit up there some day when you got time and treat yourself to .....
a remote no docks crystal clear deep flooded timber on the one side and shallow turbid "city" lake with lots of docks atmosphere on the other.
pretty fun day for sure every visit , thank me later .....and no pay ramps as well .....:highfive

Never heard of this lake, but have fished Toledo Bend and Rayburn since they opened in the late 60's and yes Full of trees still standing. It's hard for people that never saw this to understand just how many trees there were standing here on the Bend! No need for boat lane markers for many years, just don't go where trees are standing, lol!

Sounds like this lake your showing has some good potential!

saw some folks hit a huge hidden gem at full plane in waxahachie one day ,just left the ramp ,brand new fancy rig , the lake has huge not visible trees every so often in the "boating lane" ,didn't quite sink them but it was rather ugly for sure , limped back to the ramp and left .
we knew better after running slowly thru the boating lane and seeing some of those big live oaks just under the water every so often down that boat lane .
never say never my friends , hit one myself in a boating lane years ago and would have sunk us for sure if we were not in a whaler , the hole was bigger than a basketball ,just got on plane as we hit it ....it was about a life threatening bone jarring sudden almost complete stop that threw both riders out of their seats !
seen fork kill lots of boats when they opened it as well , the best lakes for a crappie are often some of the most dangerous to navigate .

purdy aint it , ya remember when that one fella used to post all the time on that "other" website when they opened it ?
it was flat out total jungle , took it less than 10 years to turn into about 1/4 of the original , such is flooded pine woods ....

There are pines but plenty of hardwoods too. I’ve run it also but that was right after it opened and most trees were still standing making the lanes more defined. I still see some doing it. I also saw a new or close to new 20’ or better bass at a fast idle high center it on a stump on the edge of a lane. Took him a few minutes to get off it. Forward or reverse it just spun in a circle. Hope it didn’t hurt that pretty thing!
Years ago on Toledo a friends bother came from Houston to fish a tournament with him. When it was over he went home and my friend went back out. He hit a stump in a wide major boat lane we’d all run many times over the years that is big as a table top. It ripped the 150 hp off the transom and flipped it onto the rear deck with the prop and lower unit over the passenger seat. If his brother had stayed to fish he’d been killed.

A few years after Naconiche opened I was there and a high wind came up. I watched 3 big tall trees break at the water line and crash down from the spot I was at. I was careful the rest of the day not to get near any big ones! It also has lots of wasp nests the size of soccer balls in the trees in the summer. The wasps are black and not real aggressive but I’d still not want to bump their tree!

That will make a fellow shudder thinking about it
