Anyone out besides me?
As usual, sitting in my Pop up blind, w/ heater going.
Has a silhouette glimpse of one, but that was it so far.

Per normal deer hunting @ this location, it’s feast or famine.
Have seen nothing, so far except I’m earlier.
Seems the norm lately.
Being opening day on a Monday probably has cut down on the hunters.
Not allot of people want to take off a Monday, pr are busy.
I heard more shooting out here during the Hunt for disabled, what ever that’s called now. I think the “Independence Hunt”
Thought I was in the most populated square mile of disabled people in the State of Michigan.
Today, opening day, not so much…….
Very quiet compared to years past, and when opening day was a Thursday or Friday.

I will trade ya. I can fix everything these yahoo's break at work and I will gladly wait on a deer to come by. :biggrin
Some days I should just stay in bed…….
During the noon hour, my sling came undone.
Dropped the shotgun to the ground.
Then tonight, I see a deer, and a tree committed Tree-icide and jumped in front of the round.
Just one of those days I guess.

Those dropped shotguns make a fella draw up.
Yesterday was not one of my better days.
After the shotgun drop, the shot that was off, well let’s just say it wasn’t that motivating.
But when you fall off that horse, you get back on.
Due to the ammo shortage, and inability to find the slug loads I prefer, I did the next best thing to get out and be accurate.
I have my crossbow…….
Anything inside 70, but prefer 50 or less is dead

DocShootin,
I won’t trade……. Lol
Even as bad as yesterday was, I’ll still take it.
Hunting with my kids, although grown and relentless in their pursuit to see dad fail, I’ll still hunt with them.
When I fail, I am human…..
They don’t understand that yet, yesterday wasn’t the first time I have failed, or had something go wrong. Just the first time in front of one of them while hunting.

Good luck out there. I wouldn’t trade either...LOL
Saw a small Button Buck, watched him walk around an play.
For lunch it was shoot the .12, it was 9 inches right @ 25 yards.
That’s what I get for it dropping.
Then did some PC work for the land owner, and now back in blind.
Not sure how it’s going to go as the land owners Son has decided to take down a huge tree.
Hopefully it’s done soon, and the Deer come out to play with the .12 gauge.

Get em! And good luck. Slow hunting here north so far but my brother did shoot a nice 7pt that I had missed during bow season.
Today is a down day, supposed to rain, and am already in the office getting some needed work done, before I go get ready for tomorrow.
Kind of funny, When we were done last night, got back to the truck. Went to eject the chambered round, and nothing came out....:scratchhead
It was at that point, after sitting the evening, that I realized, there was no round in the chamber..........:Rofl
Imagine the surprise if I had squeezed that trigger on a monster buck, and it went "Click"

8:15 this morning. Coming to a mock scrape. Shot was 40 yards away. About an 80 drag to the deer winch.
i got out for the opener also, had about the same luck as you
morning hunt only 4 very small deer, decided to change up for the evening hunt and went to a standing cornfield.......70 miles from home :(
tons of deer there and lots of bucks, six that i know of for sure , but nothing large only year and a half old bucks so i let them walk as i did shoot a nice 8 with my bow during archery season.
really just enjoyed watching all the deer , my wife MAY have had something to do with me not shooting one as her orders where something like (our freezer is still full of fish, and you already shot ONE buck , so you better not shoot another unless it is a BIG one :).. LOL )
Good luck to all for the rest of the season!!!
enjoy the woods.
Yesterday was a crap day.
Although it was raining and a scheduled down day, it got booked with life.
Although on Vacation, I was up on Deer hunting time. Went into the office to get some stuff done. Wife calls, *Im @ Urgent Care, need to go to ER*
That put a crimp in the entire day. What we thought have been a Stroke was a specific type of Migraine Headache. So all is well, but I sure had some stress, and some lack of sleep.
Today is back in blind, with my Mr Buddy heater and most likely a NAP.

Day 5,
Was slow yesterday, high winds, saw noting.
Today is Day 5, have snow, so they should show up a bit easier.
If not, I’m going to write my Senator, and congressional reps, and request a new bill/law that all Deer be equipped with cow bells so we can hear them, and know where they are located.

Season harvest complete.
Got a nice sized Doe this morning.
Interesting enough, my kid wasn’t with me, so maybe it’s cuz it was quiet…….

It was a great day to hunt, eh? I also shot a doe this morning. She was carrying a lot of fat, unlike the buck I shot on the 17th. Only 7 miles difference in location.
I was on the road at daybreak Friday and the deer were everywhere. Saw bucks, does and fawns and bucks chasing does everywhere. No wonder that buck you shot had no fat, the does are too busy looking sexy and keeping his mind off from food.
He was definitely on the prowl. Makes sense. I've heard of bucks dying during winter because they were so wore down from the rut. I wonder if they have a smile on their face when they go.
Opening day of rifle here in Oklahoma.
Shot a bow buck yesterday.
Looking for a bruiser now.
Good luck everyone

I’m back in the blind again. This time with my youngest Son.
He hasn’t hunted in almost 10’years as he was busy wrestling in HS & College.
Now that he has completed college, he’s in the blind.
We have seen a Wood Pecker, and that’s it.
Not even the squirrel I have seen regularly is out and about this morning.
One thing I will say, this kid has more sleeping positions in the chair, than I have fishing lies *Cough* stories.
That said, I attribute it to actual FRESH AIR.
It takes over some times and causes me to sleep as well.

Find the squirrels, find the deer.
Hey OE, my son was a HS wrestler too. Finished 2nd at State, Div. 4, 2 years in a row. He made a bad hit on a doe yesterday. On the 3rd search 14 hours after the shot him and a buddy found it. 734 yards from where he shot it. Those wrestlers just have no quit, eh?
No quit at all, none what so ever.
This is the first time he has been firearm hunting in almost 10 years. So far we have seen nothing, but he got a spike during bow season.
This spring he finished up wrestling at CoralVille Iowa for the DIII National Championships.
Qualified, no easy feat, wrestled to the quarter finals, and lost to the eventual DIII Champion, and his next match he lost as well to the eventual 3rd Place finisher.
6th, 7th, & 8th, he would have mopped the floor with….
But as you know, it’s how the chart gets seeded some times.
His senior year every one bailed from his weight class. It was packed, with hammers.
Doesn’t surprise me when you say he was a wrestler, tracked to some 700 yards and didn’t quit,

That's all true, no quit, and lots of luck involved with seeding. My son also pole vaulted, finished 2nd at State vaulting and set the record his freshman year in college. Just bought a house and got married so this is his first deer in awhile. He and his friends are all go getters. Love to see kids that age fulfilling their potential. Wish your son luck for us.
I'd just like to report, that after a rough start, I was able to fill both buck tags on the 22nd and 24th with a spike horn and an 8pt. Freezer is full, so I'm a happy hunter. I'd like to get out for muzzleloading season, using a doe tag, but think I'll just pass on it instead. Hopefully more for the rest of you!
AWESOME,
My oldest got a really nice 8.
I had settled for a single Doe.
Will be going back out as time permits the rest of the season.
Taking my Bow.
