I have had very little success catching Crappie on my home made flies. I use mostly store bought plastic jig bodies. Please take a look at this jig and tell me what I need to do to make it more acceptable to the fish. Thanks

Picture quality isn't the best. It's a hot pink head with white chenille body and Hot Pink Marabou, with a little Krystal Flash thrown. It's the materials that I found to work with. Tell me what's wrong with proportions, placement, etc. Anything that you see that I need to do to improve it so I can catch fish on it. Thanks

Jig looks perfect to me. How are you fishing it? Depth and speed are keys to success.
For clear water, solid white is good. If the water has a little color, I like solid chartreuse.
Maybe slightly shorter tail. White tail would work too. Really nice looking tie!
Good looking tie
Jig looks good to me. The chenille could stop at hook point to keep gap open but overall looks good. How you are fishing it, location and depth are important. Are you sure crappie are there?
Overall, I think that jig looks really good. Only thing I would do is decrease the size of the tail. My hardest lesson to learn (and still learning) when tying jigs is LESS IS MORE!
Straight down over brush where the Fish Finder shows a good cluster of fish. 4 lb test, high vis line. The water is pretty clear. We have good success on Blue Ice, Monkey Milk, etc Bobby Garland and Slab Tail Ugly Green plastic jig bodies. Another good color for us in something with Chartreuse in it. 1/16 and 1/32 jig heads.
When you say “decrease the size of the tail, are you saying “make it shorter” or “use a smaller clump of marabou”?
I think it looks great...
Good looking tie. A little scent may help as well
I would do both for a few ties to test. Shorter and less. Stop chenille a couple wraps sooner.
Maybe a little shorter and then add water.
In all honestly there is nothing wrong with that jig at all. I might try some different colors but the that jig is pretty close to perfect in my opinion.
I’d try using scent like crappie nibbles and maybe some slab sauce,,,they really seem more attracted when biting I’ve found… 9 out of 10 times more likely to bite an artificial with smell then non scented

The jig looks nice and well tied. I am still new, but imagine the issue here is presentation. Some very popular and classic jigs do not work for me at all. My style precludes them from presenting themselves effectively. It is all very subtle I assure you.
Jig looks fine, now the main part of this is you need to have or develop confidence in it!

Everything said so far is spot on. I think it’s a very nice tie, well done and at some point those colors on that jig will work very well. Nothing is disproportionate enough to say it’s bad. A good jig that you’ll now refine a little, maybe, and start to gain confidence in. If you’re on fish like you say and have tried many presentations then I would lighten it up. It looks like a 1/16, I would tie some on the same size hook with a 1/32. Even lighter than that and downsize the proportions to make the jig look right. I’ve started with an eighth, nothing. Went to a sixteenth and caught one now and then. But when I went to a 1/32 it was on. Took home my limit of good fish. Also try a dead stick presentation. Try your best to hold it still and the maribou will still move a lot. Keep us posted…….
