Bet that was a tussle on your crappie rig.
Looks like a good fight. Those Limits Tackle jigs are no joke. The wedge heads are my favorite now.
friends told me not to throw those drum back and are good eating so going to try them. same as the redfish so why not?
That was a good sized one. I was thinking catfish by the way it was pulling

better than redfish by a good mile in the edible chart , had a conversation with some folks a week or so ago and they let me know right off when I drum talked a bit ,they eat them and toss sandbass back .....it is what it is and YES i ate many of them back in the day ....
not much meat on them though , but quite tasty for sure :highfive
somewhere in the 2 to 3 lb range and fat seem best for the table ,but I et em up to around 15 lbs as well .
had a puerto rican gf back when that did some fillets "trout almondine" style about 45 years ago.
it was to this day some of the best fish I have ever consumed ....not kidding
Never tried it.. now you have me wanting to go find one. Never caught one before.
they typically pull like heck when you hook them and then give it up really fast after that and just kinda pull a bit , once in while one will surprise ya and keep at it a bit , the larger ones pull best , like Sk ketched
I can hook you up. We have a bunch of them round these parts. Catch a couple a day crappie fishing, more than that walleye fishing, and a bunch catfishing.
What kills me about them is they THUMP THE JIG so much like a crappie it's unreal.......
One of my YouTube buds baked one and it looked tasty.....I just haven't had the courage to keep one to try yet and with crappie filets to be had haven't felt the need too......
Shake the next one you catch. I think they have marbles in their head!!
They get big here in the Ohio river

On Norris lake at night they will rattle your boat, kinda eerie when your by your self lol
Lost a 25 to 30 lb flathead at the edge of the boat today after a 30 min fight. I was trying to net him, had too much pressure and the jighead bent just enough to let him off.
Sounds like a heck of a fight. They are a blast on crappie gear
I caught one around 3lbs one time and was going to throw him back. A asian friend of mind says don't you dare. His dad loved them and he took it home for a meal. It took 50 years to catch my first one but now a catch three or four a year. Never had the nerve to eat one but they say the young ones have a delicate, sweet taste if baked.
Now y'all got me curious
the plus is the pearl like rocks you get from them .....just saying .....a pair of stones in every fish .....
I had forgotten about the stones
Fun tussle. Love your laugh when you saw your catch.
When I was a kid we used to catch Freshwater Drum out of the KY River, while actually trying to catch Catfish. We used the "green worms" that were readily available in the sand/mud/leaves level of the river bank.
