North central Arkansas
Any starting points for crappie fishing spots up here? Recently moved to cave city (from Jonesboro area) and looking for some ideas where to go within an hour or so. Prefer to spider rig but open to other suggestions. I always fished horseshoe and Mississippi lakes and don’t want to make that far of a drive for a day trip.
Also curious if any suggestions on walleye in the spring river? Have heard they’re in it but don’t know where or how/what to fish with for them.

Was told that electrofishing turned up more walleye than trout from dam 3 tomissouri. Also heard it was good from hardy down to williford. I fished from the mouth to the gravel bars in winter. Locals use whopper minnows and sassy shads. My first trip we caught 3 pushing 5 pounds and several smaller eyes and saucer. Thought we had figured it out. Never got into them again. Did run into a guy who had one 19-4. Thought my 11&3/4 Was big til then.

Strawberry and black rivers have some nice crappie when they get down and clear up. Lockhart ferry put in near Cord gives access to both.

Thank you. Planning to give greers ferry a try Saturday. Hopefully find something even with the weather change. Plan on trolling jigs over brush piles I guess

See you mentioned Greers Ferry lake which is about an hour away . I hear good reports from there . Hope you find them up there .Some areas blessed with fishing more than others . You ever get ready for a road trip and camping for 2 1/2 or 3 hour drive check out smaller flood control lakes like Nimrod or Blue Mtn . Being flood control they normally have high water every spring and huge spawns . Nimrod usually has over population and loaded with keepers . Corps draws Nimrod down every few years and AGFC used to rotenone when drawn down to thin out the fish but not allowed to anymore . Looking forward to a post from Greers Ferry . Another suggestion is go to AGFC website for fish shelters ( list coordinates ) on which ever waters you choose to fish .

Thanks Nimrod. I did download those for greers and Norfork. Going to try greers tomorrow after church. Supposed to be light wind and I fish in a small boat.

So I made it today. Put in at devils fork and fished near the ramp with no luck. Went west past narrows and fished in the next cove. Found a bunch of bass with a few crappie hiding under them. Caught on crank baits. Couldn’t get a bite on jig or jig and minnow so I swapped.
I met some folks at the ramp when I left that gave me some better areas to fish and get bait. Thank you so much for that if you are on here I appreciate it.
Only found 3 crappie but it was a good day! Attachment 410835
