Those are some good sized waves for Dauphin Island
There is a gas platform just in federal waters just off Dauphin Island and it use to have 2 big flairs and you could catch all the King Mackerel you wanted during the end of Summer. I spent a year and a half as captain of the supply boat for that field.

You could see a lot of those rigs burning flares at night. I dropped a set of raybans down to the bottom of one of those rigs trying to tie a boat up. Wave smacked me in the face and away they went. I would take a kayak out and surf it in on the waves coming into sand Island on the south end. Had to fly out to one of the rigs to replace some bad wiring. The cook kept apologizing about not knowing anyone was coming out or he would have fixed a better meal. Those were some of the best hotdogs I have ever eaten.
Caught monster red snapper off those rigs. Send the bait to bottom quickly past the trigger fish in 100' depth of water. Best eating saltwater fish ever.
Triggers ain't bad eating either
The waves on Sunday when we were leaving are in the next post.

That would have been a good fishing day
The wife and I love Dauphin Island! Been several times. Really nice place to go and get away every once and a while.
Only time it isn't quiet is during spring break and the fishing rodeo
I might start going in may before schools let out..sept is getting hurricanes pretty regularly and it will only be getting worse as time goes on….i like the end of sept because the winds are like summer but the temps are starting to fall a little…may will be wind city but probably less tropical weather…..this will probably be the black dogs last trip out there….sad to see them get old…

It is rough for sure. Wife had the Dane put down a couple of months ago. She was old. Have a spoiled Mini Bulldog and and equally spoiled Shepard. They are life children. The little Bulldog has made it his business to be into anything I am doing in the evenings. They have a way of getting to you. Used to be some great flounder and speck fishing on the pier on the island. The wife and I visited my folks first part of April this year. They were moving a lot of sand around on the Island then.
Yeah. Still moving sand from hurricane sally last year. I did fish from that pier 2 year’s ago
