Well you have heard of Slab Crappie…..I call them Slob Croppie.
Pretty much Crappie and Croppy in my area. Mostly Crappie.
Bob
Old timers where I grew up called them Paper mouths
Calico bass is another one I have heard
Other names for crappie are papermouths, strawberry bass, speckled bass or specks (especially in Michigan), speckled perch, white perch, crappie bass, calico bass (throughout the Middle Atlantic states and New England), and Oswego bass.
My Grandpa used to call them "Newlights" every now and then & had me :scratchhead until I realized he was talking about Crappie & not some other fish I'd never heard of before.
Aggravating when they take lockjaw and won't bite.:Rofl
Delicious.
Actually are referred to as White Perch in some regions:scratchhead Were sold in a Maryland market in the 60's as Strawberry Perch(Cool tag!)
