I'm am going to buy a new trolling motor with spot lock. Which motors are better as well as less problematic?
I have a Minkota Terrova I-Pilot it has had zero issues thus far. I sure enjoy using it. When I purchase a pontoon boat for fishing I will put one on it
I had a motor guide electric steer years ago that stayed at the warranty shop as much as on my boat. It was promptly traded for a Minn Kota powerdrive and other than pedal issues a time or two it was really good. Since then, I’ve had I-pilot terrova’s and they have been really good with the exception of a broken lift assist collar once and a defective Bluetooth remote control a few months ago.
If I was buying a new one today, it’d probably be a MK.

Thank you, I've been leaning toward the Terrova. I currently have a Power Drive without Copilot, the foot control has been horrible. Its way to easy for dirt into the internal controls.
I did a lot of research and everything pointed toward MK Terrova. I have a 24v 80 lb. on order from Cabelas. You might want to go ahead and pull the trigger on one as they can be hard to find at some stores. Mine has bee ordered for a week now and still waiting to be shipped to my local store. Also, I got mine on Cabelas 10% off sale a week ago. Still a lot of money for a working man!
I bought the foot pedal thinking I may need it when shooting docks or chasing down catfish jugs. It stays in the front locker of the boat unused. I hang the remote off of a retractable lanyard from my belt loop. Easy to get to let it go and it retracts into place out of the way
I've had knee replacement, I've found the continued use of the foot control means quite a bit of soreness later. I typically use the remote control on my power drive.
If say it would depend on what electronics you are using and match the motor that would communicate with your units.....
All the trollmotors are really good now but if I could do it over if have a trollmotor same as my units.....
Just a little something to think about.....
MK Ultrex for sure.
Even though it is still cable steer it has power steering. Very, very easy to operate and the spot lock drifts less than 3 foot if you set it up correctly.
I need a pull cable to deploy and stow the motor. Just what I preferred over having to reach out and grab the lift handle. Also has lift assist and easy to deploy and stow. Ultrex on a few of my boats and no issues.
Don’t get the MK that automatically deploys and stows. Buddy has had all kinds of trouble with his. Another buddy has had foot pedal problems with his Garmin.
Hope you like whatever you decide on.

Here is where I got mine at : Free 2 Day Delivery! Minn Kota Terrova 80/MDI/IP Trolling Motor w/i-Pilot Link 29402046942 | eBay
I love it.. don't use the foot pedal, but I've got it should I need to..
We purchased have purchased 3 from sponsor Russel Marine, arrived quick. On the lake boat the Ultrex, works great at lake of the ozarks weaving in out around docks shooting, but has the remote steer and spot lock too. On river boat we have the Ulterra, simply because i can deploy from the tiller steer in the back thus far no issues, buddy had one had issues but they were related to not stowing before attempting to put on trailer. foot pedal is in a compartment somewhere... Terrova on another river boat works great but the deployment is a bit tricky for very mature adults.....
I was wondering what to call myself....very mature.... that'll work.
I've had 24v PD and really liked it. I own a BT Terrova. Overall it's a solid motor but it's programming that allows/causes the cable to wrap is irritating when in spotlock. If I had the money I'd own a 24v ulterra.

Another vote for Terrova. It is definitely the best value in a TM with spot lock. I originally purchased a 12V, 55lb 54 inch without the pedal for my 10' boat. Now that I have a 16' Deep V that I moved it to, I added the foot pedal. I still find myself using the remote 90% of the time. I do use the pedal a little if I'm working vegetation while Bass fishing, but for trolling/long poling the remote is pretty much all I use since I'm on the back of the boat. I got mine from Hydrilla Gear | Hydrilla Gear after messaging the owner on another board (bbcboards) and got a great deal with free shipping. Had the motor two days later.
It worked great for me once I ensured the heading sensor was in a good spot AND put the heading sensor on my house/cranking battery and not the TM battery.
I have an MK 70lb with the auto pilot and have long wished I spent the extra for the ipilot. My comment is about the warranty and repair issues. Not everyone has sides, no matter which brand. But when you do you want it fixed, first time, and done right. The majority of issues with MK are dealt with better than any others. Two repair guys said that they had problems with other manufacturers but MK was far and away less headaches. The only repair issues I’ve ever had with any of my MK stuff has been self inflicted.
I have an XI5 for over 10 years. I did have a problem with it going crazy a few years ago and went around like 10 times and ripped the cable. They tried to fix it and finally sent me a new one. When it dies I'll buy another one because I have Lowrance and its linked to it. I would be lost with out it but all I do is troll.
