Bayou Louie
Went to Bayou Louie Wednesday. At the ramp I had a hard time getting the big motor to start Battery was low. Didn’t want to chance getting stuck on the lake so I just fished around the ramp. Caught two and left.
At home I charged the batteries, but the cranking battery didn’t seem to take a charge well. Went back to Louie yesterday, but stopped at Sharp’s in Clayton and got a new battery. Of course the old one worked fine this time. It’s time to change it anyway.
No bites at first couple spots and strong east wind. Not good. Fow point with wind blowing across it and started catching a few. Boat handling was a chore but I only got my line in the trolling motor once. At least this time it didn’t break my rod tip. After a couple hours the bite slowed, so I moved to a bank with the wind blowing parallel to it. Caught a few, but they were bigger. Then went exploring and found a new spot with some better fish.
It is satisfying when you adapt to conditions and catch them!

This is a picture of Bayou Louie Rocks ramp. Road in is narrow and rough in places. $3 honor box. Gets crowded on weekends. Attachment 408723

Went back to Louie this morning. Just a few little ones at first on the point. Then along a steep bank I caught a few slightly larger ones. Then went down the bayou to a spot I fished last time. Caught a couple nice ones and then got hung up on a submerged log. Managed to get off without makingAttachment 408725 noise. Made three more passes and caught nice fish each time. Looked at it on side imaging and it was a tree with no limbs out of the water.
Best bunch of crappie I have caught at Louie. Attachment 408724

Does it have a drop off? Thanks for replying. I have only put in at the bridge but have been wanting to fish the lake. Just wanted to know what to look for. Nice catch you got there.

Some more nice ones. Looks like rain coming next week.

No drop off now I haven’t fished there when the water was very low. There’s also Bill’s Landing on the south side of Lovelace Lake. Very steep narrow ramp. My boat is 18 foot Scout. Takes a decent ramp or it’s scary launching.

Gravel road to Bill’s. Blacktop to Rocks.
