Going to try a new to me lake

After a few to many encounters with magnet fishers at the bridge I usually fish, and hunting for new water, I might have found a spot. I can even use my boat, If I can get it finished. It's a bit of a drive, and it's about 9 acres in size. The state conservation site says it's got bass, catfish and several species of sunfish. No mention of crappie, though on several other lakes they don't mention them and I know they are in them. This lake/ Pond is about 35 miles or so. It has a boat ramp, and a long handicap access point, almost pier like, but earthen, that goes about 2/3 the way across the pond at one end and looks promising. Going in the morning, without the boat to check it out and maybe wet a line while I'm there. wont be able to use the gas motor there but have a trolling motor and two (2) group 29 deep cycle batteries. Everything works out, I'll be using my scanner and finding the better spots to fish very soon. At that distance my trips will be down to 2 to 3 trips a month so I'll be making the most of everyone of them.

Hoping it is a well kept secret. I fished a new lake this summer and always enjoy it. I caught only two crappie but it was worth it to try something new and a beautiful spot.

I tied a couple jigs to try out at the new spot. Watched a video of an ol' timer who fishes a lot of these out of the way spots here in Missouri and though he uses rubber baits, he attaches a piece of orange to the under belly and seems to have pretty good luck with it on all species. I know at the bridge, crappie seem to like chartreuse in the mix, so I included both. You bet I'll post picks of the catch. Just hope I sketch some to post. But will post either way. Will be nice to be out again enjoying what ever is provided...

fear not the new spots , take a box of nightcrawlers , if it don't have crappie , it might have some other panfish that are fun .

Thank you everyone. I Had to put a Raincheck on it for this morning. Our oldest fur baby (14 y.o. chihuahua) was throwing up this morning when I woke up, so it's off to the vet instead...everything checks out OK then I may slide over their in the afternoon.

Well vet said baby Leila is ok, something she had eaten didn't agree with her and her body was rejecting it. major relief. So I did get over to the pond to the pond today. one of many in this conservation area. looked very promising. As I was out on the man made jetty a gentleman came in that lives about 2 miles from their. Talking with him he did confirm there are crappie in the pond, but he fishes for bass. I spent about an hour talkin with him and doing a little bit of casting with a black and chartreuse jig and bobber set up. Wind played a factor, and when the rain set in, I decided that was it. did have plenty of gills follow the jig back, but no takers...I plan on a return trip soon for sure. Ok here they are...pretty nice place. At the end of the levee their is a good sizes tree under the water and across to the right their is a bunch of lily pads, an area about 15 ft around. I throw Jigs lighter than most I guess, staying in the 1/16th oz and lighter, so no, I would miss a lot of the lake, mostly in the middle. I don't do well with snakes either, and really don't trust all that high growth in tight like that...For me, the boat, even electric is better...

For me that's a perfect kayak lake. But electric boat works as well. I don't do snakes either. Plus you can get out there and scan with electronics to find those spots and know if later you do wanna bank fish some.

Yes sir, it would be great for a kayak, and from what the man Said who I talked to, many do kayak their, though none were their yesterday during my visit. However My lower back wont let me do the kayak thing. Believe me, I have tried. QA couple pretty good back strains as well as dunking's, and no, I'll keep a bit wider of a hull under me thank you. My little 14' v bottom don't have much of a draft, is light, so yea. Heck, That trailer it's on, was actually for an early model tracker which is a whole lot heavier than my little boat for sure...I could probably get away with something like a Harbor Freight dingy trailer.
