Probably rock my kayak pretty good huh....:Rofl
I would hate to buy the gas for all those engines. It is probably going to stay at a marina because it has a wide load sign on it so the fuel price will be high.
No comment. I’m taking Thumpers advice on this one.
I was thinking of the fuel bill myself. I would hate to think of the gallons per hour that thing would consume even cruising
That is a big mamma jamma. It is bigger than some of the ponds I fished as a child. Some people are blessed to afford something like that. I guess I was standing in the wrong line when those blessings were issued. I was in the 14-17 used boat line for sale. No regrets though.
Mike
That’s a “Jimmy Johnson” special. Terry Bradshaw commented once on what he thought was the fill up price on Jimmy’s boat. I guess if you can afford it…The GPH has got to be staggering!

Had to check a Mercury 450 is rated to consume 38 gallons an hour at wide open throttle. Multiple that by 4 engines and then consider an average gas price to $3 a gallon. Thet puts a man at $450 a hout plus for fuel. Cost lots of money to run with the big dawgs.
I suppose to each his own , but if I had money to burn like that and it would not surprise me if that rig was close to a million , I would burn it elsewhere at my age , now back when I was in my twenties , yep that would a been a yes sir rig for sure .....:Rofl
Plus, if they are buying gas at a marina, depending on what part of the country you are in, the cost per gallon goes to 4 or 5 per gallon, which quickly makes it $600 to $750 per hour!! I'm with you! Even if I could afford it, that's not for me!!
Boats like that catch more bikinis than fish. My wife would have a fit if I caught a bikini 👙 and brought it in the boat for photos and then release it. Divorce lawyers would be higher than the gas bill. I will stick to the 60 hp merc
more horsepower typically equals more stupidity from what I remember on the subject as a younger man :Rofl
If I’m burning fuel at that rate I’ll be in the air!

None of us will beat that guy to his favorite brush pile tho.:biggrin
i saw 450 across the top of them as i passed it , bet the boat was in the stupid high dollar range , it might have been 30 foot or better , when i said 25 it comes to mind it was about as long as an 18 wheeler trailer
i figure if they can afford the boat they can afford the fuel.
Something I am trying to teach the grandsons about vehicles (fuel mileage, insurance costs, tire costs etc) differ with each type vehicle. I want them to shop around and learn before jumping at the first shiny car that catches their eye. I go by a saying an old shop foreman taught me at 1/10 SFG in Germany back in the 80’s. “ A raggedy ride beats a dressed up walk any day!
my first car was a 62 volkswagon beetle from a junk yard that cost 200 bucks , no interior and looking really rough.
ran pretty well though and it made me a happy camper to have something to drive that was mine .
i spent time and elbow grease and some dollars on it and gave it a nice paint job and some nice wheels and tires and a new interior .
after about a year of driving it i traded it to that same junk yard for a 1957 chevy pick up truck with a late model 283 in it .
the doors of the truck were in the bed of it when i got it , i did the same routine with it and when it was done , mmmmm
i had me a really pretty bright orange fast as heck pick up truck i drove until i graduated high school
got lots of tickets in it and about went to jail several times for excessive traffic violations .
i street raced it , i jumped raised railroad tracks with it , even learned how to drive on 2 wheels with it ! it was a beast , could blue smoke the tires when you hit second and just about made my dad crazy with the legal issues it caused me to get into .
my present day attorney some 45 years later had to get me out of several really ugly court appearances .
man did it sound nice when that motor hit high rpm , you would a swore a drag car just rolled up , she would just scream and shake the earth ....
sure went thru LOTS of rear tires fast :Rofl
made me proud to have my own vehicle that my dad and grandpa helped me fix up ....:cheers2
Had a couple of built Chevy trucks that kept me in trouble also.
When you related your story when you were a young lad about your orange truck I’m thinking you might, and I say might, not have made it to a calmer age if you had a boat such as that!:Rofl

Had a 14' Astroglass bass boat with what ended up being a built 140 hp with 90 hp decals. That was not the only surprise with that boat. Did not realize that the steering wheel hub was a combo of bailing wire, duck tape and fiberglass resin. I was lucky to live through that boat. The wonderment of youth nothing was ever to fast or too dangerous now I cringe at the thought of some of it
road in some sort of big block inboard ( you seen em before with the BIG chrome headers covering the massive motor sticking out the top of it ) short boat one late at night , pretty stupid stuff at some pretty stupid speeds , but it was also a really cute gal that talked me into it , it for sure got air a few times and even though she seemed totally thrilled by it , the tiny hairs on the back a my neck were screaming like a little girl saying WE ARE ALL GUNNA DIE !:Rofl
Always wanted one of those jet boats.
You tube had to tease me with a Cummins powered jet boat, rolling coal on the water. As with any of those old jet boats a fella needs to rebuild it himself. I do realize I don't have to time to invest in that
I have ridden in a few watercrafts that have exceeded 50 mph , one bass cat a guide fella had years ago and another guide friend has one VERY similar to it ,seem to cruise well at around 70 , both of them you require goggles or a helmet with face shield to ride in.
and yes both of those rides scare me ..... watching water go by that fast is unnerving to say the least at water level
I used to enjoy it. The Bass boat will do a solid 60 mph, some better in favorable conditions. In open water down a wide deep stretch of the river it doesn't bother me. Closer quarters it gets concerning. 30mph on the water seems to strike a good balance between getting there in reasonable time and being fast enough to blow some of the sweat away on those hot days
25 to 30 ish is me , 40 is about my max to be still somewhat comfortable , beyond that it just ain't my thing.
way to much stuff just under the surface in places it might not have been yesterday
a slight miscalculation or even a small object just under the surface at high speeds might spell a huge disaster .
I was on a bowl shaped 100 acre lake fishing gills. One of them wake boat showed up and the next thing I knew there was a two foot chop on the lake. I think I will start keeping Dramamine in the boat. :-)
I know the lakes are open to all recreation but maybe some common sense should prevail on smaller lakes.
