Best Value Cover For A 14 Foot V-Hull

I picked up an old (pre-HIN) Sears v-hull on a galvanized trailer. It's perfect for the 10hp motors I like and for electric motor only waters. Also easily towed behind my old Honda Accord Wagon I like to use for hunting and shore fishing. (I just wish I knew who made it for Sears, it has nice lines and a low freeboard, perfect for small water fishing.)

Anyway, I need a good boat cover for it. It will be outside during the summer under the cover, after freeze up I will turn the boat over on the trailer.

Any suggestions?

I saw some universal covers at Academy. They had several different weights to choose from

The ones I had for my bass boat from Walmart lasted a couple of years in constant use before they gave up. Stored dry and right they would probably last you longer. About $60 for them, if I remember right.

Cheapest would be a 12x20 tarp :twocents

I've used Classic Accessories boat covers for my 16' Bass boat for the past decade or so and they've served me well. I currently have the DryGuard Waterproof cover on my boat (Model C) @ $230 ... and hope to get 3yrs out of it.

I've been looking at the Classic cover, think I will give it a try. I was going to buy some nylon bow holders and Some pieces of lath for bows but the Classic comes with a pole so I will try that first.

I'm thinking I will get a HD tarp from Harbor Freight and throw that over the top when it's sitting. That should provide some protection from the elements for the cover.

It sure helps to have a breathable cover. If not the carpet in the boat gets pretty musty.

I checked ebay for old billboard sign tarps. got a 12x24 heavy duty tarp for 35.00. use heavy duty bungy cords to hold in place. I made a simple bean to place on the bench seats to make it slope to keep moisture out and off. stays covered if not in use year round and inside is bone dry. will get pic's and post later today...

I have seen those used.

Momma said if I ever take it off to mark it how I want it and she will hem it so it looks better, but I think that would be a bit much, as it's pretty heavy stuff. I just keep the old sign down. works great.

They are real heavy. Take a heavy machine to see it

Jack the tarp I bought was not so heavy it couldn't be mailed USPS, but the tarp material is like rubber coated. pretty heavy duty.

I will have to look into some.

most, if not all floors in bass boats are wood under that rug, and water saturated rugs will ruin them. Yet theirs a whole mess of them left to the weather, and then folks complain of the cost to fix 'em...

My neighbor gave me a boat cover, brand new in the unopened box, that had sat on His garage shelf for at least 10 years. The picture on the box looks nice. I brought it home, put it on my garage shelf, and it has sat there for about 5 years, box never opened. The picture on the box still looks very nice.
The box says it has eyelets, mildew resistant, and is "Trailerable".
Glad I didn't pay anything for it. I had thought about getting one for a while.

The wife one day noticed my old minner bucket, and said "That old minner bucket looks like it has seen better days". I proudly told Her how that was Dad's old minner bucket that is older than I am, sure it's rough but it still does well, and how it kinda reminds me of the old days sometimes.
Next thing you know, She gets me a brand new Frabil Classic Metal Minner Bucket for Christmas, and there it is up on the shelf in the garage, never been used, and I am still using Dad's old minner bucket. She points out that new minner bucket up there on the shelf to me every now and then, and that's when I kinda sulk down and skadaddle outta there and find something to do elsewhere...

I've got an old Fenwick Woodstream metal minner bucket, hand-me-down from my Stepdad.

I have seen them turned into lamps. You could tell her you will turn that new bucket into a lamp for the house. Almost certainly she will decide it will be fine where it is. :biggrin

Yep, I still prefer the metal minner buckets over the plastic ones any day.
I remember as a kid filling the old minner bucket with small creek caught shell crackers, they fit in there nicely.
