Clean little reel. Congrats
Thank you Jack. Growing up My late father had two reels. Both Mitchell Garcia's. A 300, and a 408. I found a 300 a year or so ago, but need to get it to a repair shop for a going through and the anti-reverse fixed. This one needs a thorough cleaning as the gear grease is hard and away from the gears. I'm going to start collecting them one at a time if I have to. They are some very good reels if taken care of...
I have an old 304 I picked up a few years ago. They are well made reels
Yes sir they are
man them bring back memories , the poor fish never knew what was coming when I showed up as kid with one in my hand , just about every freshwater fish species and a bunch of saltwater fish too , met their makers .
man they were tough smooth reels , drags sang nicely and the balance and durability was unsurpassed back in the day .
congrats to ya sir :highfive
Thank you Ketchn
Congrats, JD. That reel looks like a real nice find!
Bob
Made back before the handle could be moved to the other side.
Yes sir, the 308 was cranked with the left hand, 309 cranked with the right hand...
I love to see these old Mitchell’s still in use. Congratulations on a great find. The sound of bacon cooking in a skillet and the click of a Mitchell reel always brings a smile! I purchased this with paper route money as a kid. Still sees use and brings back childhood memories.

Oldie but Goodie..... Looks lightly used....
Hatchetjack, I feel the same. In today's society it seems everything is break it, throw it away and buy new. I am one who will fix it and continue on...If it's something I have to have right now, no time to fix it, I may get a new one to finish the job, but I'll end up with two because the first one getting fixed.
When dad passed I was serving in the military over seas. Mom said all his stuff was mine and would be their when I got home. Well my oldest sister's boy friend got into and hocked it according to her for some dope money...by the time I got home, not only was he not around, neither was my sister, nor dads outdoor stuff. Didn't talk to her for many years...But yes I love these old Mitchell reels.
Parts are hard to get I got about 40 of them and need parts

Billbob,
Have you tried Mat’s Reel Repair? I’ve gotten parts to rebuild my old 300’s from him. Might be worth a look.

A Reel Fix in Loris, SC might be of help with parts. Google for phone info.
Nice reel. Never had one but those that do love them dearly.
This thread got me curious. I thought I had a second Mitchell reel. The one I was thinking of turned out to be a Lew's #3 ball bearing spinning reel. While looking around I found a Yellow Eagle Claw UL rod. That will become the home of the little 304. Also found an old Zebco 33 and 2 Johnson Country mile reels and an Old Pfluger all metal Level wind reel.
You want a 300 with box, paperwork and spare spool? It belonged to my wife's uncle. I'm not really into collecting reels. This one is a little squeaky from lack of lube but appears to just need some cleaning.
It's yours for cost shipping if you want it.

Yes sir, it sure is...And I'm taking him up on it...Super people here on C.C for sure.
Reel is on the way. I started with a 300 myself, but when I got into Tx Bass fishing in the 80's I started flipping the bail by hand to stop line twist. It's a habit I do till this day crappie fishing. For those that know the 300 (just like the old Zebco Cardinal 4 - had those too) you have to wind the handle to flip the bail, no doing it by hand. I don't "collect" things that I don't use. Figured her uncle would appreciate it going to someone who would appreciate it. It is over 50 years old. Pretty sure it is a 1968 reel. Hope you get it cleaned and running smooth.
I sent you an email. Thank you Robert very much.
