Kayak Trip Report, Bradford Sinks

I fished Bradford on Redstone Arsenal today from 7AM till around 4PM. The fish were scattered, but consistent. I kept a limit and returned 50 or so larger fish and more little ones than I could count. Fish came off spider rigging Chartreuse Bobby Garlands on 1/16oz jig heads fished 4 to 5 foot deep in 6 to 7 feet of water. Also returned numerous Gills, Catfish and bass. Largest bass was around 6 pounds, but most were only about 12 inches. Water was stained with visibility of about a foot and 78 degrees. Beautiful day on the water. I'll past some pics tomorrow.

Great job. After 8 weeks off the water I have the doctors permission to get back on the water. I may have to try 8 mile creek soon, after the results you DK have posted.

Man yeah. The wife wants me to stay home but I’m dying to go. That picture doesn’t help my hurt feelings any. Lol. Enjoy the awesome lunch.

flintcreek, if you haven't put in off CR 1422 on 8 mile look at it close. Sliding a kayak down the bank with a rope is tough, but getting back up the embankment almost takes two people. I've drug my kayak through the woods, carried it over a mile on a little cart and hacked a path with a machete to get to the water before, but this little embankment ranks up there is one of the hardest areas to access.

Flintcreek,there is a much easer put in on down on 1352. About 30 yards before you get to the bridge there is a pull off that goes down right to the creek. Longer paddle to the fish but don’t have to deal with that bank. But from experience unless you are in a tractor or monster truck don’t get off the gravel. As my granddaddy used to say that ground is rotten and if you get stuck you are just there. Lol

Thanks Ditch and Damion for the info it sounds like the CR 1352 is probably my better bet. I am probably not up to dragging a kayak up such a steep embankment as on CR 1422. I give out pretty easy right now.

Don't want to scare you off, I'll even email you a map with a couple "X" where I've been catching fish, but that hill is no joke. A guy in his 20s put in there one day when I was fishing and I had to help him get his kayak back up the hill. He said if I hadn't been there he probably would have left it.

That’s why I told you about the other put in. Ditch is right. It’s tough. I left mine there one day because I’d fished all day and it was hot. I got back and after paddling back through all that grass I was exhausted and couldn’t get my kayak back up the bank. Thankfully everything was still there the next morning. I thought I remembered you telling me you had a bad back. That would be tough without help getting up it. But I’ve found it’s easier to get up when it’s wet. When it’s dry I get nearly to the top and the dry dirt gives way and I have slid all the way down on my knees. Lol. But if you want to go sometime and it’s where I can we can go and I’ll get it up for you. And I’m gonna send you a pm about my fish finder if you don’t mind and can help me out.

LOL, I agree on the pulley, no tree at the top and the last 6 or 8 feet seemed to be the hardest. I just need to spend some time with a shovel and cut steps!

How about a longer rope and hooking it to the back of the truck and pulling it up.

I sent you a PM with a youtube link that will hopefully work and hopefully help with the fish finder. Yeah I have had back problems and am just getting released from the Dr after hernia surgery and a blood clot in my lungs, so I definitely need to be careful but sitting at home for the last 8 weeks has sucked! I am ready to feel the thump. My Son did carry me out for a little green carp fishing in the boat a few days ago. I feel like I have missed the whole spring fishing season, but sure have enjoyed everyone's post on C.C.

I’m sure ditch is in much better shape than I am. Lol. It’s tough but if it means catching fish this time of year I’ll keep doing it. And on my part it would be good entertainment for sure.

Sorry we’ve took over your post of a great day. But my wife has been giving me a hard time because I’ve said the bank was hard to get up. So we were going to my sisters yesterday and it’s on the way. I stopped and let her see it. She said oh my,you need to find somewhere else to go. Lol

LOL, My wife says I'm to old for a kayak and has been demanding I buy a big boat that you drag around on a trailer for years. I'll probably have to accept defeat and buy one when I'm 70!

Sir,I must say you are my co hero when it comes to kayak fishing. I hope one day I can catch half the fish DB does. And then I hope to be able to do it until I’m 65. That is awesome.
