Happy to report!!

Hello fellow anglers, I’m happy to report I took delivery of a travel rod from oversea I like to share. I’m not trying to sell any rod or doing a full review just share what I think, so please read with discretion!
Searching high and low on travel ( telescopic to be exact) rods on CDC turned up very few discussions if any at all, so I thought I open up one here…hope it’s appropriate. As you all may have read that I’m from Las Vegas…the thought of finding good fishing water is a “sin” in itself, no pun intended. Over the years since I’ve moved out here I’ve had to drive back either to So Cal., Utah, or Arizona just to name a few places in order to chase bigger fishes like stripped bass from silver lake, San Bernardino or Redear sunfish from lake Havasu. I brought my 2-pc rods just fine during these trips. This year I’ve decided to start looking into flying in to my destination of choice and therefore the thought of owning a travel rod crossed my mind.

YouTube has lots of reviews on travel rods but most are of the Chinese brands off of Amazon that I think not worth my time nor consideration so I decided on a JDm model. This Nissin telescope rod rated ML good for 4-12 lb mono and lures from 3-21 grams…just what I wanted for multiple species chasing ( lake or pier). Here’s a few pictures of what I’ve caught so far. Here’s the rod spec if anyone interested to see. Also like to add that some Japanese travel rods are extremely expensive…just search Shimano poison Ultima 5pc! This model here is ‘low end price’ compare to that. And according to Nissin website (in Japanese) it’s carbon content is 89%…making this rod a little sturdier for its intended use, since I’m always wondering how brittle are 100% carbon rods.

How can you go wrong. It tells you how fabulous it is right on the outside of the package.

Congrats on the new rod. I’ve never had a need for a travel rod…..but have read a lot about the type you have. I noticed Plat just announced one from Varivas they just got in stock…..and as you say the prices can get high on them. This Varivas Morris Graphite Works model sells for 600 bucks.

Thanks for chiming in Randy! Hearing from somewhat makes me feel it’s the seal of approval considering your expertise in JDM rod, however I’ve purchased it base on the fact that this 7’ closed to a mare 18” that will go into a very small carryon (no checking in necessary) bags and good enough quality (made in Japan) to hopefully last several trips around this land I called US of A during future vacations. I also like to think it’s one very few telescopics out there that actually can handle finesse lures. Cheers!

Rods like that are the cat's meow when someone needs compact. If I were to buy one, I would certainly look through the JDM offerings, they make high quality.

I also note that the most persnickety bunch of anglers -- fly fishermen -- routinely use multi-piece rods. So, I guess that means rod builders have figured out how to provide good action with multiple junctions.

The fact that I placed the word fun and finesse in the same sentence made it that more difficult to find a travel rod that fits the bill. I came across a very highly regard telescopic by Daiwa, the BBB series or the Triple Bs depending who reviews it, that are of high quality as well in somewhat the same price range but it tends to dubbed itself more of a bass rod with very strong back bone. Nothing wrong with that except I’ve been so accustomed being part of the “ultralight” or the “finesse” part of fishing scenes for so long I still want that feel in a rod even though it’s a multi-joint one. And so far with just a few minutes of using it casting flie-drop shot and 1/32 oz jig head it was pretty close to being a light rating rod instead of ML (they don’t make L or UL ). The tip diameter is almost as small as a UL trout rod as well….

Hello again, my final takes on this Nissin Fabulous 7 feet telescope rod are as follows…first the negatives: the rod is heavy for a JDM -priced rod. I only have the Tict R-Finesse to compare with because of the length..5’9” @ 2.23 oz (63g) vs the Fabulous 7’ @ 115 grams , but the Tict is a ultralight and not ML. The other complaint would be the guides (9 total) are not marked so lining up takes some time, but with a Sharpie I took care of that. Other than that the rod fishes well for its price point. It’s not as limber but once hook on a 6” bluegill it has a nice bend. It cast mico cranks and 1/32 jighead to 50feet with ease. It’s also sturdy ,( no rattle) once jointed properly does give a “1-piece” rod feel. Glad to hear you like it. That kind of rod seems to be quite handy. Sure would be the one to use while wading remote creeks. Of course me wading remote creeks was over about 7 years back….LOL.

WOW is right! That is a well manicured/landscaped fishin hole for sure. Even has light posts and trash cans right on the banks. LVS, you must be living right!:ThumbsUp

Thanks for the kind words and yes places like this make living in the desert more bearable. Behind the bushes and tree is Boulder City municipal golf course , a veteran cemetery, and a private small-planes runway not too far from the park. So the city of Boulder City, NV do impose stringent rules of keeping the grasses and trees needly trimmed to blend in with these supposedly important surroundings.

Randy the Nissin rod is a very good multi purpose rod indeed. In hand I feel like it can handle fish in the 10 to 20 pound range and I have no reason not to believe…it says on the box: line 4-12lb. However I love using it with 2000 shimano reel and under 6lb test, so truth be told it probably will see more pier (always wanted to fish in Florida), ponds, and lake more than creek hopping…lol. Here’s a few pic of fishes caught in such environments….

BobC, this pond does have its fair share of muddy water from time to time cause by high dsert wind storm and although very rare but occasional run off from flash floods when we get what I describe to my non-Vegas families, an extreme “minute rain.”-where we get 10 minutes of down pour that can cause pile cars to float through the street…lol. The clear water this morning and calm wind made it possible to try out the tiny crank to see how it cast light stuff…..
