Stealth is the word ....pic heavy
Crystal clear water right out of the gin bottle quality , super shallow and in the high noon time frame . What is important is much like chasing tiny brook trout in the same size creek .
Stealth is super important and the need to not be seen by the fish . Fish will spot you in a heartbeat and once spooked are about impossible to get to bite .
Ran a tiny float and a 1/64 orange mean minner head bucktail with a number 8 sickle hook .
Depths on the float setting varied from about 10 to 12 inches above the jig to as little as 3 to 4 inches .
The larger sunfish were often in water less than 2 feet deep and watching the surface closely for bugs , some even hit the tiny float . The fish ran small , but my stealth mode was on full , I snuck up on some larger fish upstream from where I started wading in a real small super shallow pond and got into the super sneak on a gray fox lounging in the shade too ! :kewl
Found me a replacement turtle for our softshell that grew to large for it's 10 gallon tank and even snuck up on a resting cottontail just because .
Couldn't get the small catfish that were visible to bite and they seemed the most spooky of all the different fish ,along with the bass that were a bit over 12 inches long too . Some fish were managed in spots you could step across the creek it was so narrow and in the end , it was just a stroll and a micro lite rod .
Used a pink crappie nibble to get them to commit to a bite as they would only follow the jig and not take it if it wasn't tipped .
Saw someone mention taking to the air and by golly one of the male bluegill jumped multiple times ! :ThumbsUp
managed to ketch 58 in around an hour and half ,at least 20 or more would a been decent taco material candidates.
greens, longear ,native bluegill and small bass in the mix .
Do I belong in the creek at my age is probably a good question ,but what is even a better question is this ....do you think this is a fossil of worm castings or possibly some kind of plant type item ?
and so what if I picked a few wild blackberries to snack on while waded the creek right ? :Rofl
Was a fun sunfish break and now back to chasing crappie I go .....
KABOOM is the word :highfive
