I vaguely remember catching that many fish in a day. Not a bad problem to have
Poor thing!!! Lol
I wish I had that problem.
I remember my thumb being rubbed rough from thumbing bass.
That was in the past though.

I carefully grab them by the underside to try and avoid that problem. The last two seasons I have also been using lightweight fishing gloves. They work great and also provide sun protection on the back of my hands. That alone is worth it, as my dermatologist would say as she merrily freezes something on the back of my hand.

my right thumb stays permanently exfoliated ......:Rofl
a few get held ,but most get lipped .
some fish will ruin a hand though
congrats on the sore hand
Just stick your thumb in the mouth. Don't try to fight them fins

Usually my left thumb gets a little roughed up on Sundays. In no way would I say sore though. I usually lip and occasionally squeeze hold near gills like PR Fishing on YouTube but I very rarely hold like a bluegill. Just now thought of that and have no reason why I do that. Never even thought about it. I guess unless to small to lip hold or funny hooked I’ve just always held by the lip.
I just wear these gloves.

When I was young, I was taught to set your pinky in front of the dorsal fin and slide over to fold them down flat. But when you push on the jig to remove it is when the spines poke and cut. It just stings afterwards. I have some fingerless gloves but of coarse I left them at home on this trip. We are using tungsten ice jigs tipped with Berkeley Gulp! Alive 1" minnows. The jig heads are fat and don't leave much room to get my fingers in their mouth to push out the hook. We used forceps in the past but they end up chipping the paint off the jigs. My son was happy to catch what we did on our first day out. Attachment 404717

Catch them and grasp them by the lower lip, keep fish vertical, release and repeat. How you know how great your day was is to notice a sandpaper texture on your left thumb pad.

It’s been a good day when I come home with fish finger from lipping crappie. Drawn blood a few times fishing consecutive days.
That never happens to me. Something about jigging dynamite seems to change things somewhat [emoji2957]

When I bass fished I would get a roughed uo thumb. Haven't noticed it with crappie. My hands tend to be fairly rough and calloused.
I can't tell you how many pairs of Buff "Fingerless" fishing gloves I have gone through catching Black Crappie. I just washed a pair and turn the right hand glove inside out so my wife can sew the fingers back together on the sides. Buff dropped the gloves I use, great for catching Redfish on a fly too. Only the right gloves get torn up from the Black Crappie fins. I may have to turn extra Lefts inside out and start using them on my right hand.......
I get that as well, I also from all the water on my hands have developed a rash like thing in my palm where all the skin peels off. My dermatologist told me to try to keep my hands dry... I laughed... Not likely. I am going to fish.
Things in the water will get ya now a days. Flesh eating bacteria in some of the warmer waters down south
Yep, my hands take a beating. Gill plates and spines leave plenty of small nicks, cuts and punctures. It is a good problem to have.
