My brother lived in Dyersburg, Tn. and I pulled my little Jon boat there a lot.
I remember about 40 years ago I saw something at Reelfoot Lake that caught my attention.
A boat was moving slow in the lake an pulling what appeared to be a round cage type thing. Must have had an axle in the middle and best I can describe, looked like a washing machine drum with screen for the sides. It was turning slowly.
Asked my brother what it was and he said it was a fish scaler.
Never seen one before or since then.

Looks like they are pulling it pretty fast.
Same principle I guess but the one at Reelfoot was laying on its side and rolling pretty slowly.
I’m thinking it was a homemade deal way back then.

Man, those were the days!!
14 foot Jon boat, 9.9 Johnson, just a skulling paddle, cane pole fishing with a cricket about 1 foot deep and red/white bobber.
Just skull in and out of the cypress trees.
Bream we caught were as big as coffee saucers and black as coal.
Saw more cottonmouth water moccasins there then anywhere in the country. A 55 gallon drum of them one time in late July at a bait house my brother went to.

Built a friend and myself those a few months ago . Only drawback is if you add too many fillets at once they fail to spin . Thanks for the post .:highfive

Maybe I'm missing something, and I don't like "fishy fish", or nasty fish or anything of the sort. I'm not really even a fan of catfish (red meat removed of course), but I've never had crappie (or anything else) fillets that I couldn't get clean just soaking and swishing them around in a clean bowl of ice water. I fillet and toss into ice water until all fish are done. Go in the house, empty water out, fill bowl again, swish fillets around and pull them out 1-3 at a time, and then store/use as needed. Seems like a lot of over handling? Neat concept if you really really really wanted them CLEAN clean I guess.

I don't get it either. I do what you do but just run the fillet under running water from the faucet and rub any blood off it there is any on there (and there usually is not) and it's into the freezer bag. I'm open to learning what this is about, though!

I don’t think he said it’s better but less time consuming while cleaning the fish. It’s okay if you don’t mind wasting water to save time later. Personally, I wouldn’t use that technique but a lot of people would.

Yeah...if your outside, just throw them in some ice water, and deal with it later when you're inside.

I only clean white bass that way. All others are filleted, rinsed, and soak in tap water over night in the ice box. It firms them up n cleans them very well. I then freeze them in water.
