I just got word the trailer plate fee has been somewhat resolved. The renewal fee will now be $36 which is double what it was but a far cry from $118. Now we just have to wait for tubby to sign it.

Dang, from the title of your post I thought I was going to see some pictures. It's also possible it won't get signed
now should I wait to see if he signs it before I pay for anymore plates?
Paid $118 already this spring. Hope its true. We will see next year.
ST plates $19 for lifetime. Was in and out of DMV in 5 minutes.

Was riding around Carlyle on my bike this past Memorial Day weekend and saw quite a few trailers with ST plates. Glad that I went with it while it is still an option. There are too many people with them now to ever try to enforce a LEO's "opinion" of the law. Yet, I am still waiting to read about a single case where anyone was ticketed. $36 a year is better than $118 but way short of $19 lifetime!!!
Renewed my TB plates (3-5,000 pounds) yesterday. $154
I was told it didn't make it out of committee. (Perhaps they only addressed TA plates)
Who cares if tubs signs it , just put semi trailer plates on your boat trailer $19.00 and your set for the rest of your life the state will never catch on:highfive
was told today that $36 won't start until January 2022.
I understnd "ST" to be "small trailer"...
why is it 19$in some dmv's and25$ in some others for the''small trailer'' plates. It looks like it would be the same all over the state.
Tyler was that in Illinois ?
Hoe do I change a TB plate to a ST or TA plate ?
Does anybody know for certain if ST plates are small or semi. I keep hearing 2 versions of the story.
The way I understand this is that all ST plated trailers are required to have yearly IDOT inspections.

For certain SEMI TRAILER. IDOT INSPECTIONS YES If you get stopped tell officer you thought ST means small trailer he’ll understand
I concede....ST does stand for semi trailer....always nice to know for sure. LICENSE PLATE REGISTRATION CODES | ChicagoCop.com
I'm reading both sides of the inspection requirement. Official documents confuse me..
Well, six trips with the ST plate and I have managed to elude the police!!! And, STILL not one proven (or unproven for that matter) case of anyone being ticketed or questioned regarding the plates. Like everything in life, you must do what you are comfortable with. I am waiting to be proven wrong and will accept that if it happens. In the meantime I am sleeping just fine at night. I respect anyone's decision to do whatever they want. But these days this country has a lot of just following the herd and very little challenging of the system. I can afford the $118 plates but I refuse to without having a good reason to waste the extra $100. Its a personal decision and everyone has their opinion of what will or won't happen using the ST plate. But, without facts to back it up they are meaningless. Fact is I have used it 6 times so far without a problem. I have never been a lucky person either!
Can you pull out of state with ST plates?

I most definitely will. I've eaten my share of crow over the years. You do the same if you hear or read anything on the interweb. You think there would be at least one instance out there somewhere. For a state that takes months and months to transfer a title or issue a foid card, I'm not expecting them to get their crap together over figuring out a gray area where some DMVs and license companies suggest it and some DMVs don't. From the amount of ST plates I saw at the ramps on Memorial Day...I don't think they will go down that rabbit hole. I researched it, read about it, spoke with the DMV and the license company. The info is there. Is it black and white-no. Is it enforceable by law-no, not that me or anyone else has been able to prove. Just talk.
I have a family full of cops. The general feeling is that "type" of plate is of less concern than "is the plate current". That's just them though. Far from gospel.
We'll see how it goes. I'm not too concerned one way or the other. I can tell you one truth-the feeling I am experiencing thinking I have successfully screwed the government on a loophole, especially Illinois government, is priceless. Screw them and their $118 fee.
I don’t know whether to plate my new trailer with ST plates or hold off and hope the reduced fees take effect soon.
I was on the fence too. (PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A DIG TO ANYONE. JUST MY REASONING.) I was thinking how karma alwsys bites me you know where. Knowing that I was trying something somewhat sketchy I decideded to go with the absolute and paid the kingdom their fortune. Just my way of keeping a curse off my fishing [emoji20]

I had the same thought. Went with the "st" plates, for our boat and utility trailers. Wife and myself talked it over, at least this way she can't blame me!! :biggrin:Rofl
We just bought a travel trailer, put "rt" plate on it. The price is still reasonable for those. That is a whole other discussion!
I think I’ll be a good citizen and pay whatever it takes to register my trailer, even though it’s highway robbery.
