Sounds like a man could get busy in a hurry if he ran through some fish. I pushed cranks out the front of the boat. I had 4 rods up front, then 1 in holders clamped to the railing back by the consoles. Those rods required you to get out of the seat on the casting deck and tend to them. They could keep you hoping. You also lose boat control anytime you step away from the trolling motor pedal
I can't wait to hear the input on this one, I plan to do a similar set up, except I have a spare tiller trolling motor to add to the back when I get my spider/trolling rig built. Here in CT we can only run 3 rods per person, so with just my son and I on the boat hopefully it won't be too crazy.
You "could" ... but the rods in the back won't have much line out (unless you have floats attached). Spider Rigging is slow fishing, lines straight down, and a boat control method of forward & back & approach from another angle (around cover). Very much line out the back and they'll be hanging up, unless you're using floats on those lines.
Now I have seen people Push out the front & troll out the back ... but that's at faster speeds than typical Spider Rigging, and even then it's usually 2 or more people in the boat. And rarely are they using live bait at those speeds.
Best to do one or the other IMO. With enough speed to pull the cranks down, the spider rods would be pulling up, slow down enough to get the jigs down, and the cranks would float up.
I have never tried it, but have tried pushing bottom bouncers and pulling cranks for walleyes at the same time. The end result is doing both half as effectively. Bottom bouncing is best done slow and methodically, pulling cranks is more of a fast paced blanket approach.
From what I understand, spider rigging is usually done much slower, more of a controlled drift. Pulling cranks is done quite a bit faster, usually 2mph or so.
I am too new at this to know what I shouldn’t be doing. LOL
I set out four 16’ rods out the front and six rods with planer boards out the back. Pretty easy to manage things when a fish gets on, just have to keep my head on a swivel to watch the four out front. The six in the back indicate bites no problem as the planer board acts up. Usually I will pick up fish from both styles.
I say try it and see what you like.

I’ve pushed jigs out the front .2-.4mph with 6 poles and had 2 guys in the back pulling the jigs on the same set up with 8 poles.
I really thought I’d still beat them since I had the front man spot but they caught more than I did.

do u think thats because the trolling motor scared the fish up front?
I would have originally said no on the trolling motor but now I’m really thinking that it is a high possibility.
Before was the maxum with momentary on/off. Now the ulterra with spot lock and track that runs a lot

Combo trolling, I used 3/4 to 1 ounce weights spiderrigging out the front while wife longlines out the back, works great. Speed .8 to 1.

But, Marvin ... if you're going 0.8-1.0mph with 3/4 to 1oz weights, are you really Spider Rigging ?? That's considered Pushing to most of us. And like I originally said ... you can Push & Pull (Longline) at the same time (due to the speed), but Spider Rig and Pull at the same time, not so much.Quote:

I got booted to the back in my own boat a while back. I'd hear one of the two goobers up front start swearing cause they missed a fish....I'd watch the transom mount graph and like clockwork 15 seconds later.... fish on. Whuuped em good that day

In my opinion. In order for it to be a true spider rig you have to be facing backwards. In other words pulling corks from the front ..but by all means feel free to call it whatever.
