I prefer cut bait or chicken hearts. Bream is best. I catch them in perch traps. I use Buffalo and Carp if I can't trap bream. Cut pieces about the size of a dime for 2/0 hooks. Big is not better. I only fish the Sabine River between Logansport, La. and Circle Drive Marina on Toledo Bend
Live perch or bluegill- 4or 5 inches long. Best flathead bait thats legal!!
fresh caught shad is my favorite.
Eatin-size channels I like nightcrawlers and crappie minnows, big channels I like cut bait, blues I like cut bait or shrimp, flatheads I like live bream 3-5".
No.1 shad (drifting)
Now if I am in the spillway after they have run some water for a while, late spring and early summer then I would want crappie guts. Use to catch all kinds of channel with chicken blood.
Fish guts is the best bait for catfish I have found other than Catalpa worms.
I also like catalpa worms.
that is right nothing beats a live bluegillQuote:

Catfish Charlie Blood Type B. Been using it for eatin size channels for over 30 years. For bigger trophy kitties, shad or live bream.
I like fresh netted shad best. I also like native nightcrawlers - the ones that are as big as a pencil and squirt out that sticky, stinky yellow goo. My catfishing is done on the Missouri River.
Corn, shrimp and hot dogs work for me. I've also caught a lot of nice cats on maggots while fishing for bream.
The only time I catfish anymore is in the winter time for bluecat. I use shad and shad only. somtimes the heads, somtimes the guts, somtimes the whole shad. The fish tell you what they want, if I cant get shad I dont catfish that day.
Live 6 to 9" Shad in current. Or cut shad in still water.
My favorite bait would be fresh skipjack,
