I recently lost a tm prop half way through a day trip. That has never happened in my 50 years of boating. Have any of you used low/med strength thread lock on the prop nut?

No, I just torque mine down good and never a problem.
Besides, every year or two I take mine off to remove the "Bird Nest" of mono twisted up behind it.
It was REALLY bad a couple of years ago.
And yes, I check behind the Mercury prop too, for the same reason.
Those are held on by a lock nut. After taking them off and on several times the Teflon locking part wears out . I put a new nut on mine if it comes off easy. It should come off tight all the way.

I wonder if the pin came out allowing the prop to spin against the nut twisting it off the shaft.
Nope. Pin still intact :scratchhead
What kind of fastener was was you using to tighten the prop down?
Either the prop threads are stripped or it was pilot error.

The tool that Motorguide supplies with the prop. It was tight. Been on there for 2 years before coming off.

Is this tool plastic?

Don't have it near me. Either plastic or fiberglass. It's fairly strong without flex.

i would just get a new nylon lock nut
I have seen the insert soften do to chemicals or heat in machinery. It takes more heat than a trolling motor would produce while submerged
I just installed a T-H Marine Prop Nut / Stabilizer. It has a large O-Ring that engages the outer flange of the hub securing the prop while dampening vibrations. So far I like it, my trolling motor runs quieter now.
The new prop came with new nut. All that I had left was the shaft so good thing a new one was included.

Is that a hand controlled TM?
