Yeah, I've fished it since it opened, too .... not so much the last several years. I didn't know about the Hybrids, so I wonder if someone "planted" some in there on their own ?? I am not surprised by the Smallmouth, however, since they didn't do a good job of poisoning out the Shad or Green Sunfish ,etc. when they were starting to put the lake together.
Rotenone was used to kill out any native species in Cedar Creek, but as I understand it ... it wasn't done extensively enough & many of those "unwanted" species survived. They may have forgotten that they tried doing that at Herrington, way back in its early years, to kill off the booming Gizzard Shad population ... and in fact all they did was kill off a major portion of the Smallmouth Bass that were native to the Dix River at the time. My Grandpa told me about a time when he went down there, after the spraying, and the lake was covered in dead Smallmouth. I've fished that lake since I was a kid, from one end to the other, and I've yet to catch a Smallmouth from there.
