I said I was going looking
For some on the beds and I found some today. I’m a few feet off the ground right now, haven’t even unhooked the boat yet. Rain is forecast for tomorrow so I figured I better git now. I looked long and hard in places that have shown well in the past but it was pretty disappointing. About 9 or so I found a few and got to listen to 3 gators do the deep rumble back and forth to one another for about 10 minutes. Ultra cool, a barely audible super deep rumble. A few minutes later this guy was seen behind me and the other two were in front

I didn’t want to be any closer and guessed him at around ten feet. That show was over and I did catch these two which lifted my spirits. It’s hard when you go looking and find nothing.Attachment 400037

Now after 10:30 I wanted to try an area that used to be my favorite go to spot but has left me without so far this year. I think I found out why today. As I pulled in there was pontoon boats parked on top of where my fish used to be last year, and they never left. So much for that. Moved on around a corner pitching my hand ties that have good history. Pitched up under a tree and got the tic and lifted from the wrist. That was all it took, the drag started talking. All I could do was head for open water and try to get a handle on whatever didn’t want his picture taken. That done, I began a little pressure on him and he jumped and then thrashed around on the surface. Probably about a minute but it seemed like much more and I got him boatside and gave him the thumb while welcoming him aboard. 14” LMB. Had some 8’s and 10’s lately but this one gave a good accounting of himself. Couple of pics and back to the pool, none the worse for wear.Attachment 400039

The very next cast, I didn’t get to move the jig a few inches and without a tic, the line moved sideways. Set the hook and here’s that drag music again. Now I’m smiling! I almost went home earlier and I’m SO glad I stayed now. Good bull Gill, one of many to follow. Successive casts produced as many fish. When I caught the bass I looked at my phone before I took the pic, just after 11. Here’s a few along with a trophy colored redbreast that crashed the party.Attachment 400041

And a couple of pics reminiscent of Sonnys famous in the hand shots, I miss his presence here badly. Thought of you while taking these Jim.

At one point I got hung up and drifting in over the spot and figured that was the end. Not so. Caught 4 more after that though they had moved out a few feet. I haven’t enjoyed a trip with the gills like this in a long time, and I said my thanks before I left. All went back to be played with another day, and I pray the pontoon crew leaves this spot alone. Thanks for coming with me, I sure enjoyed the trip. The Manatees that visited this morning was another bright spot in the day. If I can figure out how to post the video from my phone I’ll add it later. Thank You Lord for this wonderful day. Hope to see y’all soon, raise a hand and say hello. Til then...... Skeet

Nice fish Skeet!
We don’t have copper nose here, not sure why.
I too miss Sonnys pics of monster fish.
