Anyone know if Lake Catoma has any large (9 inches and up) Gills? I'm thinking of giving it a try Saturday and thought I'd check with the forum members on any information.

There are some good bream in there for sure. They should really be in the main lake cuts right now. However, you will have to really sort through a lot of smaller fish!! I am not sure if they are allowing you to keep them yet but the duck river lake has a lot of giant beam in it.
Me and my brother in law have caught some good ones trying to catch crappie. Anxious to see what you find.

Fun day looking for Gills. I fished from the dam to the Hwy 157 bridge and found beds in three areas, but all the gills were a little short for me. I also returned a dozen or so ShellCrackers tossing a small spinner on the edges. All the crackers were around 10", so this looks like an area with good numbers of large Shellcrackers. The surprise of the day was catching numerous bass including a couple 4 pounders, not much you can do on 4 pound test but hang on and hope you don't run out of line or drag. No Crappie, but I'm sure I saw a few on the fishfinder in 20 feet of water around the bridge pilings. All in all a productive trip, I'll be returning later in the summer looking again for Gills!
I’ve got a couple buddies that bass fish it all the time. They say it’s a Great Lake for spots

Try Duck River Reservoir next time. It has a lot of gills. Unless its changed, it's only prohibited to keep bass at this time. The lake really needs a few bass and gills thinned out I believe to help more reach a larger size.
I’ve been wanting to go to duck river. I’ve had pretty good luck there in the past. But I’ve only took my kayak there twice and it was aggravating with all the boat traffic. Almost a constant wake. But I agree at least the bass need thinned out. You can’t hardly fish for the small ones.
