Bought my Dad one of these for Christmas. Been fishing several times and still the thing will not work correctly. All we see are lines straight up and down. We have the transducer strapped to trolling motor. Could this be the problem?

Attachment 397972. Did manage a few Saturday.
Sounds like interference to me. Do a web search on how to resolve it.
Pretty common problem and can affect them all no matter who manufactured it.

Tranducer needs to be sitting level while the boat is in water. Does it stop when trolling motor is not running. I have a hook 5 on the front of my boat. It doesn’t work well up there mounted to the trolling motor. Worked fine when it was on the transom of the flat bottom
If it on the trolling motor it will have line in it every time you move the motor. I'm guessing you are referring to the side image? Side image doesn't work well on a trolling motor imo

Lot of different things can cause issue. Sharing power with finder and trolling motor can cause it. I have even heard of guys getting feedback with the finder hooked to the crank battery. They have to unhook the battery cables from the engine. So advice would be on the battery to the finder unhook everything else and see how it does.

That could be my problem
I would recommend trying to hook it to a battery by itself, if you have an extra. You should we able to get a feeling of what it should look and act like. Based on this, you should be able to separate the interference culprit and work your problem out. I have fought this before. Some fish finders seem way more sensitive than others!
Now that I think about it, they were lowrance units???? Odd
Run a separate ground wire to the unit from the battery if not already
I really appreciate all the help. I have made some progress but it still isn't right. I got the Temp and Voltage working now, but the depth isn't reading/or showing. Made some changes and have it ran to a single battery all by itself. Not the trolling motor battery as before.
I've tried to set a hard limit on Custom setting and still it doesn't show depth. I am about ready to chunk this thing and try another unit. Life's to short to set and deal with this frustration.
Went out again yesterday, Wind was big issue, but did manage 3 decent size Crappie. Enough for Dad for supper.
Thanks again for everyone's input
