Nice build. Did you fish your previous Matagi build, the 6'6" model? I'm curious how it fishes and your opinion of the blank.

Funny you should talk of tip wrap, I deal with that on windy days. Frustrating!
Whats your thoughts on only using what looks like 6 guides plus the tip? On the 5'6" I sell i Put 9 plus the tip.
i like the 9 guides plus tip that you do but a friend built the 56 and I gave him all the guides but he followed the fuji recommendation and left a few out, no big deal. Because i buy the fuji set of torzite in 12/8/6/4/3/3/3/3 $59 plus add a tip my rods usually have at least 8 plus tip. Doing a 7 now talon 2 piece blank weighs 20 grams tubular tip and im adding a 5 and an xtra 4 so this one will have 10 plus tip. Total weight on finished should be around 42 grams. I live in woodland, wa and because i dont pay shipping plus military discount, got blank for $30, matagi/suzuki blanks usually run over $100. I cant get the guides to weigh even with 1/1000 th of an oz scale, i say more the better, just takes time to thread thin braid thru all those small guides 😆Quote:

That does help, the actual specs on blank lure wt is 0.2 grams to 1 gram. 0.2 grams would be 1/130 oz but i dont think there is a head that small, hook probably weighs that ��

I have trouble casting 1/100 and 1/80 so I stick with 1/64 or heavier. My do it 1/32 ball head mold throws a 1/43 with a #8 hook, hence the odd size I talk of. That I can cast and have it behave in some wind. Wind over 10 I have to use a 1/32 or better and I usually just pack and ride about then. I can’t imagine trying to cast a 1/130 any distance, though I’m sure there’s someone that can get it done.
What kind of line and lb test do you use?
Nanofil 2lb with a 4lb clear leader and 2lb nanobraid with the same leader. The nanofil outcasts anything else.
On other rods I have some fireline crystal in 3 lb which was aggravating when new but has become better with some use. Another has 4lb Nanofil and a 6’6” rod that will cast a 1/16 far enough to get comments from my guests every time. The line isn’t for everyone cuz it has a personality but Ive learned to live with it. I’ve caught 3 1/2lb catfish and largemouth close to that size also, but the shining star was an 18” striper that had me around the boat a few times, all on the 4lb Nanofil.
The lines you are using are the thinnest out there. I use some pe 🇯🇵 braid that is about the same diameter as what you have. A lot of people use mono/ester/fluo which is a lot thicker than braid. The stuff you use is about 1/2 lb mono diameter.Quote:
