any information is appreciated about single pole crappie fishing
I see guys on TV going to it a lot know and seek help with the following questions
1. is it essentially spider rigging but with 1 pole?
2. do you have to have live scope to do it?
3. are you moving? (sometimes I can't tell if the guys on tv are moving or not)
4. are you constantly moving or is it a stop and go thing?

I single pole all the time. I call it “casting”.
Check out SK's Crappie Catching Adventures on YouTube or Trout Magnet Man on YouTube. Couple of good members here and both single pole. SK is more of a vertical jig fisherman and Randy is casting. Hope that helps some.

No you don’t have to have livescope. Here in OK we’ve been one/two poling way before livescope. How I started crappie fishing back in 2012 after seeing Todd Huckabee and others fishing this way. See a lot more folks going this method since livescope.

No not constantly moving. Sometimes sitting on structure other times as I stated in last comment.
I think I do both those thing's. Can't figure out using two rods at the same time. Last year was my first year fishing for crappie's and I learned with a bobber. Then read abut the slip bobber and love it. Then thing got tuff and I had to float around the lake looking for then and started simply casting and retrieving for them. Those guy's wit eight rods out blow my mind. Imagine getting a ht on all of them at the same time! The catfish guy's do the same thing. How do you keep the fish from tangling the lines?

So what is it? Is it trolling or casting or dipping or jigging or something else? I can fish all those methods with a "single pole". There was another recent thread asking the same question. Apparently, it means different things to different people.Quote:

For me, "one poling" is either casting, vertical jigging, Vertical Casting, or "flipping" a jig (* what I do when Livescope fishing). And then there's those rare occasions when I troll with "one pole" in hand.
I think it's mostly a reactive name to distinguish between using "one pole" and using multiple poles, in most people's minds.

I am not sure what the answer is but I typically try to ketch crappie with just one rod at a time

Single poling to me is dipping in the brush very slowly feeling every limb and every fish. But yeah I suppose all of the above could be single poling. I took it as the user was watching some Youtube videos or whatever and watching guys livescope with long rods and was referring to this as single poling. Where I come from this is a technique where you use a long rod to jig. As previously stated I call this dipping, two rods would be double dipping. I make use of several different techniques that cross over into other techniques. For instance one technique is casting and dragging a drop shot minner through cover. Very deadly. I get where one might say that they are single poling while using different techniques as they have only one pole in each hand. To each their own.

It gets fun when two hit at once that is were it is good if your fishing parter is real quite to get one of them. Yes at times the fish will get you tangled with other rods. Just have to realize that is part of spider rigging and trolling. When I started trolling another man that had been doing it for years told me to use as many colors of line that I could find. It made it easier to determine which one to cut the jig off of which helps get the tangle out.
I'm mostly a single pole jig fisherman. I'm working on casting for them but haven't had much luck. I'll check out those YouTube links above.
