Open water

As temperatures moderate we should be getting some open water to fish. Does anyone have any fishable open water? I will start checking in the next few days and post accordingly. It crappie season!

I’ll keep an eye out too.

Visited Glendale lake today. Very little open water. Saw 2 people ice fishing in the causeway area. I doubt that it was very safe.

My small pond is just starting to melt in the area that is less than 3 ft deep.

Most small farm ponds have open water in South Central Pa. Pinchot lake in York co. is 99% open however there is floating at the dam breast.

Woo Hoo. We’re looking at some 60+(!) degree days next week! Almost time to start putting the reels back on! I’m going on a scouting trip up the creek in the next day or so to do some scouting and see how many new trees have fallen in the water!

I just go word that Lake Marburg ( York co.) is open water. If it is open that means most others are open also. Marburg is one of the bigger lakes in our area so I assume everything has at least some open water also. I hope to fish it this week. It can be a very tough nut to crack but has some really nice size crappie,yellow and white perch and other pan fish. I can not say it better then Bob in the last post. Spring is here!

Since it was 66 deg. today I decided to go fishing at lake Marburg. First I stopped at a small stream and seined 2 dozen red fin minnows. Then I fished the second bridge area of the lake for over a hour. There is still a little snow in some of the shaded areas but 99% was just bare ground. The water in that area is about 20 feet deep with medium clarity. After a hour of throwing jigs and using my minnows on a bobber no luck and zero success. As I mentioned prior this is a extremely hard lake to figure out and since I only fished one area I can not expect success. It was a great day to be out.

Where are good crappie spots in Marburg. Is Pinchot being drained again?

Pinchot is down about 3 or 4 feet. I was on top of the hill at the breast when I saw it so I am not sure to exact height. I wish I had good information on Marburg. It is not just myself as I know several people that fish it regularly and know Gordon at Band B tackle in Hanover.
Her are a few places I have caught some crappie there. The second bridge on the lake side, around some of the docks when we are allowed to fish them prior to boating, Also the last cove down by the dam on the northern side. It may be on or near Hoff road.??? . In mid April if the lake is full pool try the creek in Black Rock. I am referring to way up stream and not just the cove. If they are in there there will be plenty of guys so you will know where to fish. I used to catch perch out from the swimming pool area through the ice but that was years ago. I am sure that can still be a possibility with a boat in early spring also.
This is the best info I have and to be honest be patient as I stated in the last post I did not catch a fish yesterday.

Marburg completely open. Talked to a lot of anglers today but nobody has found any fish. One guy bringing his boat in said he didn't mark any fish.

Very nice!

Took my boat out yesterday. Put in at Mahaney and rode up lake. Water is over seven foot lower than summer pool so had to be very careful to try to stay in the river channel. Made it to the area I wanted to fish and was disappointed that no fish were there. Headed northeast and found a nice mess of crappies over brushpiles in ten feet. Jig and bobber did the job on them.
