Adam has a great channel. Builds a lot of great looking crappie jigs.
I agree. Good stuff.
Have used all of these materials. Back when others abandoned hair jigs others kept fishing them and continued catching fish.
Fatman, hope you are doing well!
Even though that squirrel tail doesn't have alot of action, that thing looks good in the water. Thanks for the video.
Rabbit has lots of action....I have some for you in the classified.
I agree that hair has its place in tail material, I really like bucktail but tie mostly walleye jigs. The walleye like them at least.
You know sometimes the fish don't want much action. Not sure why other than maybe the water is a little cool still and they are not as active, but have seen kiptail jigs do great when the water is still really cool, like around 50 degrees. So for me I want both options available, the not so much action to the great action like marabou. For me Rabbit is really close to marabou and being hair will out last marabou for sure.
Fox is also great to tie with and has some action too.

I know the youtuber used exaggerated actions with his jigs to illistrate his point, but...
If you watch all the livescope videos, hardly any of the fishing gurus use much action with their jigs. They dead stick them, both plastic and hair jigs.
A famous guide once related that a fellow wanted a trip with him to learn to fish with jigs. He said he never caught anything on jigs.
The guide asked him to demonstrate his jigging technique, which was a lot of action like in the video above.
Tha guide asked him to then demonstrate his minnow technique, and it was basically deadsticking.
The guide told him to use the minnow technique on his jigs. And he told him he had just saved him $300.
The moral to the long story above being, aggressive fish will bite anything. To get the others, with or without livescope, subtitle is better. Taylor your material to the finer movements.
Just like Skip said.[emoji847]

I wish he would have shown dead sticking them out of the current.
Not a fly but one of my most successful baits used over the years was a 2.5” carrot which doesn’t have much action. I believe people get caught up on if it has enough action and/or color. I’m guilty of over thinking it too at times though. Lol
I use a lot of roadrunners and spinners have lots of action. I like action.. more the better...fish mostly long line trolling.
Good video I’d say each mastery has its place depending on water temp style of fishing. Thanks for sharing it

Let me tell you guys what action means to me. Take marabou and take a jig with a marabou tail and just let it hang in the water next to your boat and troll motor slow and watch it. It looks like it's swimming and with a Roadrunner type bait fished like I do, longline trolling is exactly what I want in Spring and Fall when they are active. Now on the other side when tight lining more times than not I have to dead stick it to get bit in summer or even at night in summer. So I am more likely to use a Hackle tail in summer.
Now if very early spring and the water is still maybe near 50 degrees I may want to use a kiptail jig under a float.
So for me it's just what I feel they want more at the time and for me great action is a bait looking like it's swimming along.

Fish will tell you what they want, just have to listen to them. This is what a man told me that helped me learn how to dye feathers. I was experimenting and sending him pictures of different colors I thought were cool and he said sure they look great, but the fish have to like them and they will tell you if they do. This why I do not see the difference in handles versus plastic. We can get the same movement plastic can with the materials shown in the video. So then it comes down to color variances and shape. Color variances no problem I can match any of them and can do more than plastic. Shape is a little harder to mimic. They have a mold and I have materials. Then finally and most importantly presentation of which there are many as many have described in this post. Again here the fish will tell you. As far as the video goes it is a great showing of the different materials but you tie a tail that long it is going to have a ton more movement does not matter which material it is. Thanks Dave for putting that up.
I showed the video so everyone could sort of see the materials in water. I haven't seen many of them in the water since I only use a handful of materials for tails. Probably 90% of my tails are neck hackle. It was good to see the different materials although I admit he used a BUNCH of action and never really held them still except in the current. To me the marabou and rabbit breathe more than other materials when in the water and held still. Like stated above use the material you like and works for you, the fish tell you what they prefer.
This is the carrot. They come in different size molds.

Look at Slab-A-Nator jigs hot rods.
Oh Ok, how are they rigged? Jig head thru fat side or bare hook with a sliding weight (like texas rig)
I rig mine same as picture but I guess you could do different.

Thats awesome How big are those jigs? I have a lot to learn about this style of fishing.
Depends on the mold. They make different sizes. I know SlabANator jigs sells 3 sizes. 1.75”, 2.5”, 3” but I think there are other sizes too.
Love the setup. Will look for these
