Hi. Anybody know where I can buy a quality cricket cage? Maybe I'm blind, but I can't find one at Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops' sites. Got one a Wal Mart last night...really cheap. Cut my finger on the wire when I picked it up. Thanks.

I've been looking for about two weeks now and the cheap ones are all I've found. If you find some of the good ones. Post were you got them please. I'm talking about the ones like my grandfahter had, metal ends, good wire. The small end had a cork stopper and the large end screwed on. I can't find any. The last good one I had left finally give up on me about two weeks ago. This one was as old as I am, 44 years that I know of, it may have been older than that I'm not sure.
Get on ebay under fishing there are plenty up for bid.Good luck
I bought a decent Eagle Claw cage at a local bait shop and it works pretty well. It was only a few dollars if I remember correctly. I've only used it once though because it took so long just to grab one of them out of there and hook it. Is there some sort of trick to it that I'm missing?
I saw a couple at Pets mart, I didn't look at them, just noticed they had them. A pet store that sells lizzards and such might have more selection, but I don't know. They also had the pre-packeaged box of crickets, what will they think of next?

.... cp
Wantabe that's what I'd like to find. I just bought a galvanized minnow bucket at Basspro that was made pretty close to the "old" ones with good quality. Looks like there's a market for the sturdy old kind of cricket cages with galvanized metal if someone notices.
Thanks folks for the replys. I'll get one on order today.
Plano Cricket tube, model 740-002 is the best I have found. You won't cut yourself on wire and you just open the cap and shake a cricket out.
Thanks CP u hit the one i've been lookin for awhile
I make my own out of a 20oz. plastic Sprite bottle. The clear bottles let in to much heat for this.First take a small nail and heat it a make a bunch of air hole around it. Then take some small bungee cord material and feed it through the bottle from bottom to top and tie a knot at the bottom big enough that it won't pull through then.this is the trick. get a wooden ball from the craft store and drill a hole through it and tie the bungee cord of. it automaticaly close and traps them inside. It is easy for the bait shops to refill with that funnel they use.
www.catfishconnection.com has them and crickets too
I guess no one makes a good metal cricket tube:( But I do see a demand for a good tube:)
The best cricket cage ever. If you know anybody that fools around with bees or a bee keeper supply house youve got it made. When they order bees, they come in a wood box about 12"long x 5"wide x 8"tall.The wood frame is covered with a fine black wire mesh. Take the cage and cut a hole in the top wood part the same size as the plastic ring on a plano cricket cage and then rod the ring off the plano and use it on your bee cage and wa la!! The best cricket cage you ever used and will last a lifetime. You can put 3 or 4 hundred at a time and if kept out of the sun will last a coulpe of weeks with a few apple wedges every 2 days or so thrown in.If you want to water them, take some sort of plastic lid [gatoraide lid works good] and put a little pea gravel in it,fill with water, and your good to go.Hope this helps.:D
I don't use crickets anymore, but when I did, I liked the open top "reach in" type of cage. I thought they were much easier to use.
Put them in a 5 gallon plastic bucket. It's the best way there is to handle crickets.
Personally, I like the reach in type, usually red top and bottom with mesh around it.
But I did find an interesting website for those that may want to start raising their own crickets. Here is the link.
