Good measuring devices

For near 40 years I've used the Golden Rule to measure my fish. I need a couple more devices. I know some of the drop-in type are not accurate due to the fish not sliding down far enough. Which ones are good and accurate ?

I’ve used a Hawg Trough for years. It is accurate.....used in KBF Bass Tourneys. Mine is now 10 years old and really need a new one. They come in green and white.

Love mine. Bought mine from Austin Kayak though. I think they all the same just different logos applied.

I use the frabill crappie checker if I’m just checking to see if they are 9” minimum size. Fish that I know are bigger than 10-11” I use a golden rule.

I think the "best" measuring device to have is whichever one the local F&W guys use to measure your catch. In my case, that's a Golden Rule ... which is what I have & use, and is one of the first things I take out of the compartment & put on the deck before I even start fishing. :biggrin

I just found these. Anybody use it?

You can always cut the longer Golden Rule to the length you want. And that pink checker is the only on that a thick slab will fit in.

Sorry... I guess I said that wrong. My Golden Rules begin measuring at 10". I used them in bass tournaments. They used to make a smaller one that started at 8 or 9". Can't find these yet.

I just use the Frabil checker, a lot of times I don’t even put the fish in it. I just hold it against the back of it and check it that way. I put a sharpie mark at 9 inches. If the fish tail covers the black mark, it’s good. Unless I’m real hungry I don’t keep a 9 inches anyways.

Ketch: Perfect Dave. Exactly what I need.
Gator: those are what I remember.

I think I like the Ketch better.
Probably buy a couple if Ketch'n don't mind [emoji846]

Glad you found one you like. Read the description on the ketch and make sure it’s what you like. They have different models

never heard of ketch ,but they look nice , how long they been making them ?

Not sure how long. I did read this on the About Us page and thought it was good.

This is cheesy, but with wading I try to stay real minimal. I know the length of the handles on my rod and put a small mark above it on the rod for any bigger ones that come my way. I do C&R so the measurement is just for my record. As I say, kinda cheesy.

Love my Hawg Trough. I took 1/2" round foam weather stripping and glued it into the recesses on the underside to make it float. My Golden Rule went swimming in Jordan Lake and is still on the bottom somewhere. My Hawg Trough has been knocked into the water several times and has been easy to retrieve every time.

I use the golden rule on my boat and a hawgtrough on my kayaks. Stretch cord on golden rule and foam on the trough

Yeah I have stretch cord tied to my hawg trough as well. If it doesn't float it's tied down on my kayak.
