Just for vertical jigging, what would you suggest?
I have personally taken a liken to 10' rear seat rods. I got the BnM Ultra Light for Christmas and getting ready to give it a try. I have used various rods similar, but guess I'm slowing down as time goes on and they start weighing heavy in my hands after 3 or 4 hours of jigging. Hoping this will be able to keep me on the water longer.
Southern Crappie Rods 10/2 Stump Jumper. Semi rear reel seat and unreal balance. Tough as nails!
B'n'M Tree Thumper. $54 at Academy. I LOVE mine. It has backbone but is sensitive enough to feel even the light bump. I plan on adding another this spring. It has the reel down near the base of the rod with the cork grip above it. I like it.
Really depends on what your preferences are. I have vertical jigged with 10’ rods for 15 years now, way before Livescope and have used or tried a bunch over the years. Have settled on the Huckabee Elite after years of experimenting. They are 10.5ft. But they won’t be for everyone, they are a completely different blank than most crappie rods out there and are on higher end price wise. They are rated for heavier weight jigs but I regularly use 1/32 and 1/24 oz jigs as well as heavy stuff.

If it was my money. I would try a 10' cork handle from proanglertackle.com. I don't own one so I can't recommend it. But I sure do want one.

B&M Duck Commander mid seat double touch.
I’ll also recommend the Kevin Rogers 10 ft rod. I got my second and third ones in the mail just the other day.

I own the Rojo Grande Rods and use 9ft 7wt fly rods with a Min 4 tiptop #3 ring. So sensitive you can feel fish hitting the line. Anyway not the point, I met Steve Dana at a BPS seminar he was doing in Denham Springs, La. Since I have a near endless supply of rods I quietly sat with my friends, right up front, and listened. Steve was saying one thing but as I watch his bio-mechanics he was also demonstrating something else. He was moving his Tree Thumper in a way I could tell would be deadly for me. Also we are never too old to learn a new trick. Since I have 2 8wt rods that very much are Saltwater grade fly rods for my "Swing'em" in the boat backbone, and due to the length of the 10ft Tree Thumper, it didn't catch my initial interest. Steve did a great job so I bought one of his rods in 11ft. Well it's fantastic for the style of river trash fishing we do so I went to Grizzly jig and stocked up on spares and the 10ft too. As the earlier post recommends, the 10Ft Tree Thumper is a great 10ft vertical jigging pole. Even fishing one in each hand, they are light enough and stiff enough to get the job done. Still using the WM Solo's where a softer tip section is OK, have a jig tipped with a minnow, more open water where wave action may induce too much jig movement. When a even softer touch is desired I have 2 11ft BGJP poles with the handles cut down making 10ft 2 in rear seat jig poles out of them. With 4# test, micro weight jigs, both are deadly, especially on Shell Crackers.
10’ rear seat ozark or acc crappie stix I have about 5 of the ozark they are my favorite and picked up the acc for giggles and ended up liking it to!

My vote would be ACC crappiestix. I’m trying to talk myself out of ordering a 12ft rear seat myself, I have no need for it but I sure do want it.
I have a 10’ Sam Heaton super sensitive for about four years. Paired with a metal frame Diawa sweepfire 1500, it balances like a casting rod right at the blank touch spot. I’m not gentle on my gear and it has done me well and isn’t heavy.
10’ ACC would be my first choice but a Huckabee would be up there to depending on how stiff of a rod you like and if you fish in a lot of timber.

Between the two I have, I prefer the Sam Heaton over the Huckabee Dippin' rod ... even though the Huckabee is a more powerful rod. The simple reason is that the Huckabee Dippin rod has a larger (thicker) handle than the Sam Heaton, and using it for any length of time cramped my hand. But, if it weren't for that I'd go with the Huckabee Dippin" rod on greater strength & sensitivity.
I have a 10' and 12' Ozark rod brush buster jigging rods. I love em. I've had Acc, todd Huckabee and bnm rods and I really like the Ozarks the best. I also have a 7 and 6.5 ozark pro series and they are sweet.
Mercy! 18 post and about 12 different rods.
Now I'm off to hold whatever Academy & Woods&Water has in stock that y'all suggested.
Got a feeling it may be Double Touch, Tree Thumper or Sam Heaton.
But it will get braided line for sure. Thank you all.
A Tree Thumper loaded with braid? When you set the hook on a shallow fish your crappie will turn into flying fish right before your eyes. I use 8#-10# Mr. Crappie Camo on mine. Dana put plenty of backbone all the way on that one. I love mine, bought a spare 11ft & 10ft so if I'm out of town, break one, I'm not fishing without.
i just cant get past that sawing sound when i set the hook with braid and its WAY worse on a 10 footer :Rofl
What size reel are y’all using on the jig poles?
Jenco Hypersense rear seat with with a small spinning reel, love the weight and sensitivity
Rojo-you make a good point about braid. Know I have no experience with those rods. Thanks. But I am looking for sensitivity. I just don't see how mono can give any rod much senstivity. I have 1 b&m jig pole and 1 b&m ultra lite. I tried mono on both with 1/16 and I cannot feel brush and such like I want. 8-12 fow.
Ketchn- I hope to hear some sawing this year. LOL. Thanks.
SK & Kevin Rodgers runs braid.
I guess I should have ask what you pair your rods up with also.
No spinning reels, just cheap solo line holders.
Dana said he fishes the Tree Thumper with 6# mono in the seminar. It does have great sensitivity but others in the brand do too.
Went to Academy yesterday. I held 3 different 10 foot rods. A ultra lite which I have the 11 footer and like it, a Russ Bailey, good looking rod, but pulled the trigger on the Tree Thumper.
I plan to experiment Saturday with Mr Crappie 6# mono and 1/16 jigs, weather permitting. But will have the 10/2 PP in the bull-pen ready to go if needed.
Thank you all very much.
Still hanging with my 10 ft acc crappie stick mid seat. Love it
I bought my Tree Thumper from Dana in the bathroom of a BassPro store.
True story.
He was there in his shirt with all the logos on it and we were standing there side by side peeing. We discussed fishing and by the time we washed our hands, he had sold me on the rod.:Rofl
I use 4lb mono on mine and find it works well for me. i bet you'll be most happy with your new rod Jay.
Never saw the point in a 10 ft. rod that has rear seat . Buy an 11 ft. you will be fishing 10 . jmo . Bucks best ultra-light or Sam Heaton .
I should have posted before but I personally use Mr Crappie 10# line on my Tree Thumpers. I snag so much it is easier to pull to straighten the hook then bend back. 1/16oz is the go to weight poured with a Mustad 2X Fine #2 hook. Bends easy enough to not disturb the cover too bad, but no lifting heavy fish, it will straighten when least desired. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(
BPS has these football shaped splits, I add a 1/16, I think #6 is the size split 5ft over the jighead for deep fishing. Usually if fishing deep 14+ feet I drop down to 1/32 #6 Sickle hook and up to 1/8 BPS Split still 5ft above jig. If I feel it stick to the cover I use the split to free the hook unless I set the hook thinking it was a fish.
Since using a spinning reel I loop the line under the spool line keeper to set my depth for deep fishing using the 10 footer..........
I use 11 ft to fill two needs 10 and 11 . like you say rear seat . Hold where you like .
