This is TJ Shands using a piece of plastic bag on a bare jighead on video.
I been saying Crappie not as picky as fishermen . Tommy Ezell has a video catching on ciggerette butts too . I have a photo of one I caught on bare unpainted jighead . Been telling folks presentation not baits is most important in Crappie fishing .

I talked to Tommy at length yesterday at Grizzly and Rickie and I went to his seminar. Great guy!
Rickie and I also enjoyed the seminar with Charlie Bunning and Mike Baker. Both great fishermen.
I really want to go but afraid of covid . My friends up that way invited me to stay with them. Sadly their family came down with covid . He is a member on here so pray for my liittle fishing buddy .Quote:

While I agree the average guy would benefit much more from learning to control the boat well enough to put the jig where it needs to be than worrying about jig/bait selection I don’t agree with generalizations that line/jig choice never matters. I could even possibly be on board with you might be better off to keep moving to new fish that will bite whatever jig you put down or worded another way just chasing aggressive fish versus trying to coax stubborn fish into biting. But I have seen it multiple times on my Livescope, even it dirty water, where I get a jig in close enough to get the target fish to move on the bait but not bite or even spook back to brush. And then quickly switch rods to one with a different bait and catch the same fish. You also don’t have to spend much time on the internet to hear similar accounts from the guys truly at the top of the tournament game. And I am not talking guys pushing a sponsored product or bait. Just real world tournament experience with an individual particular fish.

Some say that but I have pitched a bait as many as 5 times before they bit . Most refuse a bait just not willing to bite . My time better spent moving on if seeing lots of fish . I had one last year bite several times on same bait . Finally looked at bait and hook had broken off . :Doh:Quote:

NIMROD- I have had the broken hook deal a couple of times.
Have seen that spider rigging minnows years ago. Thinking everything the same but something differnt cause one pole catch the most fish :scratchhead:scratchhead. I used to believe similar to you. That was back several years when the fishing was great on Lake Barkley. I used the same couple Midsouth tubes all the time, didn’t own a minnow bucket and always caught a bunch of fish. But as the lake got more pressure and after several years of bad spawns things changed a lot. I have a feeling a lot folks are going to get to see it first hand as more and more people get Livescope and more and more pressure is applied to our fisheries.

I get ask where to fish and get told when a crappie will and will not bite. Two things I don't agree with at all. I teach how to locate crappie only. If the angler doesn't want to put in the seat time and just wants me to say "fish here", I'm not interested in giving my fishing spots away to someone who is not willing to find their own. I regularly pull fish out of places where I am told they won't bite. Presentation of the bait catches more fish than color. I am sure once fish become pressured enough it will get tougher. Just like Deer hunting you can tell when they been pressured .
There are times when you can throw anything down there and catch a box of crappie.... Yep there are times that may happen, maybe twice a year but to consistently catch crappie year round you better have an assortment of bait colors and sizes and be willing to move.....
There are those that during the so called crappie season can be as good as any of us at catching crappie..... And they feel they're the best at catching crappie, then you don't hear from them until the next so called crappie seasonrotfl
