You guys heard about this? Apparently two young guys shot over being in a duck blind? It's insane that anyone would think a duck spot was worth killing someone over.

Prayers for all the families, friends, and first responders involved. A lot of broken hearts trying to sleep tonight. Hug your loved ones and don’t ever leave mad. :pray

Prayers for the families. No doubt more details coming.
Stupid crap like this is why I hardly ever hunt public land anymore.
Get rid of the blinds on public land , make them hunt out of a boat. Blast off at 5am.

Prayers for the family's involved I don't duck hunt but I know several people that due and I have heard of a lot of problems this year (more than normal) involving duck hunting.
Unreal, their has to be more to the story.
I checked the news and they reported that a 70 year old man is being sought for the incidence, They say he is armed and to be considered dangerous.
So sad.
i have seen some heated problems in the past with outdoors people and spots they like or own or lease .
cant imagine some stupidity that resulted in the loss of life over it .
a 13 year old got shot on a place next to where i hunted years ago during turkey season.
he was trespassing on the next place over .
they tried to prosecute the shooter due to the sketchy story over how he got shot .
but i think in the end the person who shot him got away with it .
sure made us sad back then to think some idiot would shoot someone over a turkey hunting spot .
much less a young person at that .....
i know of a man who actually shot a guy with bird shot in the face when he caught him stealing his deer blind in Arkansas .
his son spent a small fortune to keep his 80 year old rear end out of prison . of course the thief pistol whipped him first and he got back to his truck and gave him a good what for with his trusty shotgun.
it can go south quickly in an everyone has a gun when the argument starts situation .
sad but true
So sad and feel for those two young men and their grieving families. MS had the sense years ago to ban the placement of any permanent structures, be it a duck blind or deer stand on public hunting grounds. I foresee TN going this route soon. The honor system is non existent and hunting game animals or fishing is a gray area on rights. It basically boils down to you don't have any. Place structure, blinds, stands etc on public property it becomes just that. I agree with them rules and do my planning as such. Hope they get the old scoundrel before he does any one else any harm!

Apparently there’s more to the story.
Supposedly they had a run in with each other in December. I’m not sure if this was one of the grandfathered in blinds or a draw blind. He actually shot three guys, two died. The one that didn’t die hit the old guy in the head and knocked him out of the boat. He got his buddies loaded up in the boat and went for help. They found the old guys boat on the bank but not him. He may have drowned. He has yet to be found.
Still don’t know who the instigator was. Old guy may have been in a self defense situation or he could have went out there looking for a fight.
Supposedly the young guys had rights to the blind.
We don’t know the whole story yet.
There’s talk of drawing for the blinds on a week to week basis instead of the whole season. I still think they should get rid of all the blinds and have everyone use boats no earlier than 5am or something.
Reelfoot is terrible to hunt IMO. Blinds every 150 yards, everyone has 500 decoys out and highball calling all day. Hunted there twice and don’t care to go back.

What a nightmare. The Mississippi River had a bad run some years ago and I gave it up altogether. Public lands seem just as bad. This is terrible, all over some ducks. Heck, I’ll eat em if I kill em, but don’t really enjoy them enough to want to go anymore. I’d eat crappie every other day. Tragic situation, and I hate for the families of those involved.
I deer hunted public land here in FL a few years back and will not go back to any public land down here. I arrive at least an hour before light and watch things come to come to life. Activity started about daybreak, other hunters, noisy ones. I held my ground, hoping for the best. A short while later, a young 6 point stepped out, and I raised my gun. Before I got a round off, several others started unloading in his direction. I counted as I lowered my gun and tried to become one with the tree I was standing next to. 24 rounds were fired at this deer, and he never got hit. God only knows where these other shooters were but no one stepped out to see if he had hit his mark, just considered it a miss. I waited about an hour, packed up and went back to camp, loaded up and went home. Glad to have survived unscathed but I’ll not temp fate again. I don’t duck hunt but have heard of several disputes. Dont think I need to have a. Confrontation with my recent lack of filter and patience with stupid people.
