That's not a good thing. When they bought Cabelas, they started phasing out all that was unique to Cabelas.
Yeah I’m not sure that’s a good thing either. I was gonna say sportsman’s warehouse was a sponsor but it’s sportsman’s guide.
Less competition means higher prices
I would agree this isn’t a good thing for anyone involved, sportsmen and women, employees alike. I am hoping Sportsman’s Guide doesn’t sell out too.
they pretty much ruined Cabelas as far as Im concerned..
Yeah and the same stuff as they essentially become the same store
Competition dwindling is never a good thing.
They said they'd keep them separate but they didn't! Go on Cabela's web site and most of the products are Bass Pro. they're cutting a bunch of the Cabela's stuff
NOOOOOOOOO.... Sportsman's Warehouse was my way to escape the BPS semi-monopoly. Now, all that's left is Academy.
This is when we need to start supporting our local smaller tackle stores

Never good for the consumer when the competition is bought out.

sad times we live in , bass pro and cabelas were both terribly high priced
not good
BPS rarely has sales on anything worth buying and keeps it's prices high. might as well buy from your local tackle shop as not much difference. government hasn't been aggressive enough in attacking these larger companies buying up all their competition in many industries especially tech.
I was sorry to hear when Cabelas sold out. If there had been a place like that when I was a kid I would have lived there. The fly fishing shop in the Hamburg store was the BEST FF shop I have ever been in. It has remained a good company to do business with, I haven’t had any problem with internet sales. I just hate to see all of the consolidation, but that’s big business these days.

PS I only have one bait and tackle store within a reasonable driving distance, but it good to support the local guys.
Sportsman Warehouse has had problems for a long time. BPS likely gave the corporation a lift out of obscurity. Hopefully the many employees from top on down will get to keep their jobs.
I'm in agreement that shopping local shops is a good idea but they rarely have, in stock, the gear needed.
fortunately there are several online e-tailers to shop.
The last time I was in the nearest Cabela's store (pre-Covid) the shelves were half empty and what they did have in stock was primarily BPS brand products. It truly looked like a store that was going out of business. So sad.
Sportsman’s warehouse went bankrupt years ago and sold out to some Canadian investors,,,since then they’ve had a hard time getting g people to sell them inventory so it’s probably a good thing for bass pro to buy them out so at least they can fill those shelves
Bass Pro Sucks
AmaProBellaZon?
Gander Mtn has also left.
Gander Mountain bit the dust because they didn't pay their bills. They were out 90 days with most of the vendors I knew reps in.
That sucks! SW used to have a deal where you buy x # of flies and the price came down a lot. For those tiny dry flies, this was a good option!
There are still some of us small tackle shops left. Are we going to have the inventory a 100,000 sq ft big box store has? Obviously not, but I guarantee you we probably have something you need, and I GUARANTEE you your business will be APPRECIATED!!

Cabelas did away with their replacement warranties once BPS bought them. I buy local first, specialized online stores in US next, then Ebay or Amazon next. Online Chinese stuff too! Just cuts out the middle man for the big box guys and I save $$$. I only buy at BPS/Cabelas if they are the only ones to have something. Crappie.com sponsors get my money if I can!

Hi Brad, hope you're doing well. We love supporting small businesses, and especially Bait Shops. I've been in your baitshop many times, nice place. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Maybe get you some Slabsauce in it. I should send you a sample kit. PM me.
I buy from Academy first then maybe BPS or Cabela's. I found Cabela's had better quality on their clothing than BPS any day. Sportsman's Warehouse was my all time favorite outdoor store, period.
Thanks Slab! Yes sir we def need some Slabsauce!
Can anybody say....
MONOPOLY
I try not to give Johnny Morris any money unless it’s an emergency and need it right now.
I try to support local and small companies.

I prefer the “old” Cabela’s but, IIRC, it’s major shareholder was a hedge fund who wanted to sell off Cabela’s assets. Bass Pro stepped in as a buyer to at least save the Cabela’s name. I think Cabela’s had gotten to the point where they didn’t have a lot of options.
I've been personally affected by monopolies, big time. Namely Google and FB. Please use Bing or DuckDuckGo, and of course Crappie.com. Once companies get so big, and can disregard (and step on) competition, they abuse their user base to take total control. It's almost human nature for them to do so, because they can, but they 100% need to be reigned in. I have a lot to say, with specifics that have negatively impacted Crappie.com, but I'll leave it at that, as it's liable to get political. :bash
Academy near here is a sad store to go in, mostly clothes and shoes, and "Sorry, we are out of what you're looking for".
Around here in the New Orleans area Dick's Sporting Good doesn't even sell tackle anymore.
