Unreal, also sad!
It shouldn't be a shock. This is the yearly guide level. Just think how fat those crappies are getting on all those shad!!!! That guy in the boat I'm sure has a limit!!! :)
I've got a friend at Sardis now and he said the ramp is open but was told by a worker it will probably be closed tomorrow for two to three days. They are going to pave the parking lot and do some work on the ramp. The heavy equipment is sitting at the ramp now.
Tell Em to cut the stewpit orphaned steel beam at the bottom right side of the dock off level with the ground. Someone is going to get hurt on it and it’s already cost folks a lot of money.

And if they need any other tips on how to operate a lake, give em my number.

Yep, knocked a hole in the Basscat January before last on that darn thing. I nosed up to the dock to pick up my partner after parking and the current pulled the rear of the boat right over on it! Made a big gash in the side at the deepest part of the boat. Around 5 thousand to fix....
Maybe I need to send the Army Colonel in Vicksburg a letter regarding this issue. I sent a letter to him last year when we were having a lot of break-ins at McCurdy Pt and Persimmon Hill at Enid. They finally corrected that problem. I had to dodge that pole myself down there during winter draw-down. Makes no sense to leave that there, right next to the boat ramp! I may go down there and take a picture of it myself to send to him as evidence, unless someone can take a shot and send it to me.
Has anyone reported it to the Corps!
You can see it in the picture.
That looks like it would fall under the regs for "Hazard to navigation".
Call your Congressman, they're not doing much of anything right now anyway.

Yep, "G" that's really bad. About 5-6' higher it would be a bottom ripper for a glass or aluminum boat. I will save this pic to my PC and see what I can do. When I last saw it, it was at the top of the water. This is the perfect time to cut it off!
Sometimes its easier to do it yourself with permission, 15 minutes with a torch, just sayin.
Need to at least drill a hole in it and tie a buoy to it so we'll have it located. If I get down there soon before water comes back up I'll take a portable drill and do that. Number for COE at Sardis is 662-563-4531, if you want to join me in calling. Squeaky wheel gets the grease (sometimes). :ThumbsUp
The number for Vicksburg Office is 601-631-5000. I called there and left a message asking them to take care of it. I called Sardis field office and got a recording saying Sardis office is closed now.
Catchum, to your knowledge, are you the only person who has tried to talk to the Sardis office? There is a quick fix we could do ourselves. Get a 6-8' PVC pipe just large enough to fit over the steel pipe. That way if any boat hit it, the pvc wouldn't damage the vessel. The lake now is at 236'. The highest risk for damage would be,(I'm guessing)about 240-245' lake level. That's when the greatest hazard for damage could result.
What ya'll think?
OK, fellas. I just talked to a gentleman named Houston at the Sardis office. I told him about our concern at the Engineer's Point. There is a plan! They are going to put a lake level gauge at the site of the pipe, that's the reason it hasn't been cut off. He said it was planned to do while the water was low. They are paving the ramp lot right now. I told him they better make haste, because when it starts raining, it won't be long before it's under water.
If any of you guys are planning to fish there any time in the near future and see any activity, let us know by posting to this thread.
Tight lines and be safe!
Good luck
That is a flat out dangerous situation ,,,somebody needs to be held accountable for damage to boats and people,,,been way long since it’s been noticed. City people get 30 days to fix an issue with potholes before they become liable,,,,should be the sAme for all government,,,
I know it’s there and have hit it a couple times myself. There was a bouy on it, but that disappeared. Attachment 390594

Thanks Armyman, I sure hope they do what they say. In meantime, a PVC pipe slipped over the steel beam is a great idea. Anyone know what size we need? I'd guess from memory (mine is not so good anymore) that the beam is 10" or 12". Problem can be fixed for about $50 in material.
I finally got someone on the phone at the field office. He told me the same thing G posted that they were going to put a depth marker on that I beam. I asked him about putting a piece of pvc over it and he said no need they were planning on getting this done while the water was low. I've got a piece of 10 inch schedule 40 if they don't do something I may donate it it next time I'm down there.
I have a bunch of gouges from that ramp,,,,never knew what it was,,,ought to cost me plenty to have my Ranger bottom repaired,,,wonder if my insurance will cover those repairs,,,
5 minutes with a torch would save 1000s of dollars.
Rode down there last night to get a measurement and they have fixed the problem. And the ramp is open just have to maneuver around the the equipment.
They may still put a guage on it. What I saw looked just like the other pipes for the floating dock. I'm just glad they took care of it and saved a lot of us a lot of boat repairs. I know the lake level before I leave home by looking at m v k report.
They could have cut the thing off in less time than welding on a pipe. Does anyone that works for the government have any common sense?
That "I" beam was driven in the ground several feet. They were going to weld the pipe on it to extend the floating dock. Rains came and the water rose too fast and too high for them to complete the job. Maybe now they will extend the dock so it can be used during low water. It would be a simple matter to affix a water level gauge to that pipe.
Awesome
Ain’t that the truth. Stupidity at its finest.
