I like my terrova....hasn't let me down yet.
Still love my ulterra !
I’m running an old motor guide brute 78..... I need an upgrade for sure....
I like my Ulterra but I would defiantly be interested in a Ultrex
Ultrex, it has been great!
They have recently came out with brushless motors. Supposed to be a big improvement and easier on battery life.

Motorguide Xi5, would like to get a Ulterra just for the self deployment/stowing aspect but love the xi5.
Terrova 24volt 60 inch. Use the little fob around my neck. Pitched the foot control in the loft of the shop.
10 year old Terrova.
It works well enough. The spot lock on these old motors is pretty crappy, but it's still better than not having it at all.
At some point I will replace it with a newer Terrova or Ulterra once they start hitting the used market, but not soon. Can't afford a new one.
My arms and a paddle. Works pretty well considering their age.
I have the Ultrex, love it but wish I had the Ulterra for the self-deployment/stowing aspect. Can't imagine living without spotlock after using it for 2 years.
The new model Ultrex is what I’d consider seeing it comes with brushless motor....wihen will those be available?
I love the Ultrex but you sure need to be sure it will clear your rod holders when it stows. I found out the hard way.
Ultrex. Spotlock is awesome.
I have the ulterra, but the electrical steer i have not got used to. Love the deploy and trim great for an old guy.
It really depends on what units you run Luv my Ulterra I run Bird`s the new Lowrance Ghost is pretty good if you have Lowrance but not near as weedless as the Ultrex.
If an Ultrex has the Mega SI ducer built in, does that mean it's one of the brushless motors? Are all MSI's brushless? The one I have on my boat, was on my boat when I bought it, but the guy said he put it on this spring. He said the same thing about the Solix unit and I checked and it had 10 hours on it when I checked the hours, so that wasn't a sales pitch. I do know that I fished all day last Saturday and didn't charge the batteries and had over 1/2 charge according to my remote when I went yesterday afternoon.
Ultrex plenty of features on it.
depends on how I'm fishing, Maxxum Pro for jigging in the brush, a terrova with I-Pilot if I'm spider rigging
Minn Kota Ultrex and I'm lovin' it!! :biggrin :biggrin :biggrin
I'm running a MinnKota Ulterra Terrova (black) I-Link, Bluetooth, 60", 112 pound. I have a spare 2019 RipTide Ultera I-Link I'm either going to sell or trade for a Ultrex. I'm going to figure out a way to set up a slide bracket so I can use Ultrex for Livescope and Ulterra for trolling.
Of your wanting a heavy duty sliding bracket I would suggest looking at the one made by R & R Design I’ve had mine about 21/2 years it’s built really well and can slide all the way out to take the trolling motor all the way off. Attachment 389521

Been running XI5 for about 5 years....no problems
Garmin force. Love dropping a way point on side imaging, drop the TM and click GO TO on my remote while I get my bow graph on and crappie nibbles on my jig ready to go. The brushless motor is so quiet. The boat came with the garmin but not sure I would have bought it on my own. Now I can't go back to a TM if it isn't networked to my graph waypoints.

1st gen Terrova, 60" 24v, 80pds thrust with i-Pilot. Love it. Spot lock works great in wind, without wind it kind of searches for a place to be. Once it gets settled, it decides we nee to move again. I prefer wind, any wind.
Xi5 linked to Lowrance Carbons.... Anchor lock works good,it has its moments on cruise control but I've learned to deal with it.
My overall opinion on TM’s without a specific model. That’s cuz I don’t know how you fish. I’ve dealt with MK powerdrive motors for about 18 years and had no trouble with them along the way. I looked around and spoke with several guides, all freshwater, and they were using and recommended the saltwater tough Riptide series. The circuit boards are all sealed and no water can ruin them as can happen with the standard models. Also all the hardware is built for the salt and tough as nails. My current MK is an auto pilot (not an I pilot) 70 lb that has served me well for 10 years, a riptide SP70 I believe. When I replace it will be with a riptide terrova I pilot 80lb, no question in my mind. The price doesn’t matter because I’ve never had to fool with mine and it’s smart money spent. You buy it once and just go fishing. Hope this helps, good luck with your decision.
I have 2 Ulterras. One gen 1 and one gen 2 . I purchased both from BBG Marine. Never have had trouble with gen 1. I haven’t powered the Gen 2 yet. I have confidence in these machines. I use spot lock for tying and peeing.

I have a terrova and there are three things I don't care for about it.
First is the fact that you have to stand almost on the front of the boat to deploy or stow. I wish they had pull ropes like the old motorguides. If you're in rough water, it can be unnerving to get that far on the bow.
Second is the foot pedal. It sucks. If you want to use the remote, it's great.
Third is spot-lock. It takes a minute or two to get itself positioned where it wants. That defeats the purpose of spot-lock because you've already scared the fish off with the "antics".
If Minn Kota could get the foot pedal from the ultrex and the auto deploy from the ulterra AND fix the spot-lock so that it stops going fairly high power when trying to get to the spot lock location initially, you'd have a fine trolling motor.
I'm using a terrova 60" gen 2 had it for a little over 3 years. Spot lock is awesome. Don't need an anchor anymore. Problems with mine are spot lock will drift alittle while fishing bridges 5-8' kinda annoying. Spot lock will turn off randomly, not very often but it happens. I can live with these minor issues. Best fishing money that I've spent except for the live scope.

Got a Terrova this spring and love it! A little wind helps the Spot Lock function well. The foot pedal takes some getting used to. The remote works really well. SpotLock increases my fishing time substantially.
Minnkota Terrova Riptide with Ipilot on pontoon and Motorguide XI3 on little boat. When the Minnkota goes south it will be replaced with another Motorguide either XI5 or XI3 whichever I can get my hands on. Had an XI5 on my bay boat and switched to Minnkota when we got the pontoon. Motorguide beats the Minnkota on every front except the remote(no screen) but I can live with that. I can stow and deploy my motors just fine myself. Wont find a cable steer or foot pedal in saltwater editions so rhe Ultrex and others are mute on my side.

I sorta like my old MG myself,,,no problems but old school....terrova looks , but the electric steering. Is touchy
I bought a cable , may have been T-H, that had a hand grip like a cable steer motor. I looped cable loosely around the shaft just below the head then used a cable clamp to secure it. I then wrapped the clamp with electrical tape to keep scratches down. This allowed me to stow and deploy the Terrova like a cable streer. All I had to do was get my foot up to the release. I had the same issue of being uncomfortable leaning over the motor head to raise it.
I solved it all by going to Ulterra.
