Do any of you guys have your black box on the deck? On top of the deck? I’m moving mine to my new boat and I can’t find a good place to put it under the deck. I have ample room to put it on the deck

Not here in Texas. That baby would overheat during summer time fishing (educated guess).
Be sure you use 10 awg wire for it. Maybe can mount it to a hatch lid?

Can you get it under the troller peddle box? Does it have a plate upfront?
No trolling pedal box. The problem is that all 3 front compartments on this G3 have a bottom in them. On my Xpress the compartment on the bow was completely open. I put it in it, over to one side. I could put it in a compartment and can, but the problem is going to be routing wiring and the ducer cable back to the front. It will cause some headaches....
I did wonder, since it's built like a heat sink, if it would benefit from being out in the open where it could get more air??
The access hole for the front wiring is large enough that I could put the black box under the front part of the deck, but there would be no way to secure it, it would just be up there bouncing around. That doesn't sound like a good idea....
I talked to a guy last year that mounted his to a plate and then mounted the plate on the trolling motor bolts. :scratchhead
I have mine under the console mounted to the vertical panel above my feet. I like the fact that it’s shaded and gets plenty of air circulation around it.
I ran the PLS cable, ethernet, and power into the front compartment. The head is mounted up front so real close to the module, I also have the transducer on a pole by the front seat. I drilled a 1" hole thru the vertical wall into the locker, and used a hole grommet plus a short piece of split pipe insulation for padding so the cable won't chafe. The module is not screwed down yet - I have been too busy fishing. So I rubber-banded the cushion foam from the shipping box around it and put it in a small box in case I hit a wave.
On my stick steer I have mine mounted on small shelf by my right elbow out in the sun. Haven’t had any overheating problems yet with sun beaming down on it. My boat is like yours, limited storage and most are angled to side of hull impossible to mount. Also have seen pictures where guys have theirs mounted on stand right below head unit.
Thanks for the reply Charlie. I called Garmin yesterday and talked to their tech support. I asked them about mounting it on top of the deck. The guy said there was no issue putting it on the deck. I told him they might want to put that in their instructions because every post I'd read on any internet fishing forum said you needed to put them in a compartment to keep them out of the sun but they weren't going to get any ventilation in a compartment.
I have got to where I take a lot of posts on other forums with a grain of salt. So many people have gotten to be experts with a receipt of purchase . The same guy that tells you that will have his unit installed at boat dealer wired to fuse panel with 16 gauge wire and crimp connectors then wonder why his voltage is low.
Cray you just nearly exactly described how the Solix 12 was installed on this boat. I didn’t know that until I started working on it this week. The first couple of times that I took the boat out it was showing a low voltage alarm. So I took the less than 1 year old group 29 Deka AGM cranking battery out of my Xpress and installed it. I went back out a few days later and was still showing low voltage on the Solix. I started pulling the wiring apart Monday to move the Solix to the console and the hot wire fell out of the butt splice it was installed with. First thing, I never use a butt splice on a boat and secondly when I rarely do use a butt splice in other things, I pull on the wires to make sure they won’t come out. The guy that I bought that boat from paid somebody to do a crappy job.
