Gourmet Panfish.

Trying to get on a pattern below Nickajack Dam in October can be an exercise in futility. For whatever the reason the month of October there does not produce fish on a consistent pattern. It has been this way for the 5 years I have been fishing there. This past week I had one day that I caught 100 fish...half cappie, half bluegill. Then for the next 2 days nothing except for the nice walleye that hit a Sow Bug colored Trout Magnet. A lot of fun on the Abu Garcia Diplomat Extreme 62 UL Area Trout Rod. It is rare for me to keep fish anymore but this one came home with me....and I might add it was delicious. Went one last time for the week yesterday but did not take the boat...I fished up in the lake. Had a lot of fun off the point there catching chunky bluegill with the Abu Garcia Eradicator 67 Slow Taper Special. Will hit it again starting Monday. If previous years fishing hold true bluegill move into the dead lock in mass in November. They will only hang around there for about 3 weeks then they head down river....so once they do I'll be burning the road up for those 3 weeks.

Very nicely done. I thought for sure with the title "Gourmet Panfish"... I was going to see piles of golden fillets with french fries, hush puppies, and coleslaw.
You certainly had a great day of it with a mixed bag of fine eatin' fish (not just panfish) for sure and lots of catchin' fun. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the comments. I went back yesterday and not a bluegill to be found...not even little ones. I did however get into to the crappie....27 brought to hand with most being at the 12 inch mark. Was a lot of fun catching them on the Diplomat Extreme. That water needs to cool so the bluegill can make their fall run there.

Hey I watched the video of this trip and really enjoyed the camera angle and the twitching demonstration. Seeing the tip on the hook set and twitching cadence would be even more informative. I did notice that all those Slabs were netted, and they needed it as they looked like they had some shoulders :biggrin. One thing I noticed and maybe you can help here, the bending curve on a couple of the 12in fish did not look as pronounced as it does from the chest camera view. You have said many times this is the softest rod you own and I just assumed the softness was felt and shown in the deeper curve of the blank, but it doesn't look that way on the one dimensional video screen. Just trying to get a visual feel for this rod versus the Finetail Area Stage that I have. Thanks for the videos and great catch!

Awesome Randy! I am the chair of the Walleye Management Team at AGFC and I recently gave a presentation to the Commission on Walleye management in Arkansas. One of my take home messages to the Commission was that although only ~7% of Arkansan's say that Walleye is one of their top three fish they go after, almost ALL anglers keep a legal sized Walleye. They are (debatably) Arkansas' most tasty fish!

They rate the rod as “Regular”. All the MC area rods I own.....4 of them....are fast. Years ago Allsorts told me just how fast MC rods were....and of course he is correct. The Diplomat...while it is soft.....the Uber soft part is the tip. I need to hang some weight on it and demonstrate the bending curve so one can see. That’s going to be the best way to convey the action. Only have another 3 weeks to fish before I have spinal surgery on 23 November. Then I’m down for 6 weeks so maybe can do some videos of bending curves.

I would love to do that...but the wife....LOL. I have 1777 feet of house and I just don't have a good room to do that in and leave it all up.
