Clearwater Report Columbus Day.
Had a buddy that wanted me to take him and his father fishing. I got there a half hour early so decided to launch by myself. Bad mistake. Stout wind out of the south I backed the boat in the water and before I could climb in and start it, it blew sideways on the trailer. Got it started but couldn’t get the winch clip unsnapped due to it being torqued sideways. Well finally motored around enough to get the clip off the boat.
They arrived and we headed to my favorite honey hole only to find it too shallow since the lake is now at winter pool. I scanned further back toward the lake and found some fish. Got them set up and fishing. They started catching one here and there. When the action slowed, we went down the other arm and started fishing. A BIG dark cloud came over us as the cold front moved through. It sprinkled a few showers on us then the wind turned out of the north. It stated blowing steady at 25 with gusts to 40. White cap city. We ran for calm water and picked up a couple more keepers and called it a day. They took home 18 total. I was kind of disappointed for them but they seemed happy. June bug and chartreuse curly tails were the hot color.
On the way home, I got about 30 miles from the house and had a blowout on the boat trailer. I forgot to bring my floor jack and 4 way wrench. I limped the boat into a church parking lot and unhooked it. Found a Napa store a few blocks away and bought another 4 way. Used the truck jack to lift the trailer and change the tire then headed home.
I’m getting too old for this.
