Concealed carry weapons

I am confused by some statements I've heard from people who have been to the ccw classes themselves. These statements have caused me to rethink if it's a good idea.

I was told that the ccw instructor made the following comments...

1) If you draw your weapon you MUST have already made your mind up to shoot or else do not draw.

2) If you shoot and kill the other party they better have a gun drawn or it's murder.

How can this be true? Deadly weapons can be as small as a knife, hammer, pipe etc. Help me understand these comments please!

I think it has a great deal with the local laws and view of self defense. I hope to never use my carry gun, but I’ll deal with the repercussions afterwards vs my loved ones having to deal with a funeral. Alabama is a castle doctrine state and there is no duty to retreat anywhere that you fear for your life or someone else’s life. There are exclusions to where you can legally carry though.

Best thing is....do some more thinking....go over scenarios in your mind...then go take the class and ask your instructor questions and go over different scenarios with him.

I’d ask a lawyer in your state. In Ky we have a stand your ground law. We don’t have to retreat or run but there must be a reasonable chance of being harmed or killed. But before that the law read you had to try and retreat hide or run

If you live in IL, perhaps you shouldn't carry more than a cap gun!

I will give you another thing to ponder !!!I rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6 !!! if you fear for life you have every right to defend yourself !!!

As a former firearms instructor and police officer, I'd find another instructor if they said that.

It's also a good idea to have a lawyer on your side and a good way to do that is through something like United States Concealed Carry Association better known as USCCA. Look them up for some answers. For a yearly fee you are covered by insurance and they will have a lawyer at your side shortly, even before you give a statement to the police. You will have instruction on what to say and when to say it after an incident. The NRA also has such a program. I'm covered for 1 million dollars. Makes me feel better every time I carry which is often.
