Kinda New to the Board
Hello All, as that title says I am kinda new to the board. Rock Hill born and raised, 34 years old and grew up fishing Wylie and wateree for crappie mostly. Fished with dad out of deep v growing up, but haven’t fished much of the last decade with work, wife, and kids. Decided with alll that is going on in the world I should go back to basics and get myslef a boat and do things my way. Bought this beauty on Craigslist about a week ago, 24 ft toon with a 60hp mercury on it, boat was sold as if the motor would never run, but I like a challenge. This will be the first of many posts to show the boat project and hopefully some fall crappie in the near future.

Welcome to the board and good luck with the project. I also fish out of a pontoon that I rebuild to fit my style of fishing.

Welcome to the gang! You got enough room to get the family involved and we hope to see you at the gatherings we have for the friends, family and anyone that wants to fish with us. We'll be looking for you! :highfive

Welcome from another toon sailer 22' 90HP 4 stroke, love fishing from the toon hate fishing from it in the wind.

Thanks, my dad and I actually fished a night stalk with y’all about 7 years ago on wylie. I won a rod for guessing the closest to the biggest fish weight. I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old both boys that will be ready to watch some rods with me.
For those that fish out of big toons what size trolling motor, shaft length, and battery setup, I mostly will be trolling minnows in morning hours and anchoring brush for night stalks. But might start experimenting with trolling jigs as I get my setup going. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I've got a 54" 80 lbs and wish I had a 120 lbs. I got the ulterra and love being able to launch, park the boat away form the dock and call it back after I park the truck. Several others have the same thing.
Get onboard chargers to keep the batteries alive. I've got two two bank chargers two batteries for the troller, one starting battery and one for lights bait tank etc.

Welcome to the board.
I just finished a rebuild on a 79 Trihull. I've had it out 3 times now and really enjoying it. Still have some tweaking to do, but it's fishable now.
Last night was out until 12.
Only caught 3 catfish. Nice eaters but was hoping for a few Crappie.

I have a toon as well. I agree with MThook about onboard chargers. I’d go with 120lb thrust.

Update, just finished up motor repair and got it running. Cleaned carbs out and replaced stator to get it running. I am dropping in Allison creek tomorrow around 11 for my first trip hopefully all goes well and I can move on to trolling motor and rod holders to get some fishing in. If anyone is out that way and sees the big toon feel free to give me a yell. Also the motor could quit on me and I may need a tow!!!§

Welcome. I had a 22 foot Bennington I use to fish out of. I had a 12 volt powerdrive up front and it worked, but really should be 24 volt probably. I had Gene make me some mounts so I could mount two of his Millennium spyderloks at the rear to troll with. Worked great.

Ryan, I talked to your dad yesterday and he is extremely proud of you. I hope you get your ride ready soon and can get him out there with you to fish. I have been knowing your dad for a good while. I just didn't put two and two together and it was a shock to hear he was your dad. When he told me his son was on C.C I was puzzled but then he said you had a new ride and working on it then it came to me who he was talking about. Hope to see you both soon on the water. Get Ferlon, Jordan and your dad and come on. :highfive
P.S. Your dad said you'll won something at one of our gatherings at Buster Boyd. Something about guessing the big fish weight is that right?
