Terrova repair???
Attachment 383656So after giving a positive recommendation of my terrova I got an issue
At the base of the drive housing a collar has slipped, or broke off, and is sliding down the shaft. This causes the shaft to rock in the drive housing, no good! I can push it back in, but it quickly slips back out. Is this something common? Can I lightly tap it back in to better secured? Got a call into a shop, but I won’t hear back until after the holiday weekend.
Any ideas? Was planning to fish all weekend.

The lip on the the collar is gone. Should look like this.

That looks right. Thanks.
$1.49 part but needs to be installed from the inside, so the entire drive assembly needs to come apart.
-
It's a $1.50 part online but will probably cost you a $100 to put on. Be sure to check the other collars and washers for wear while it is apart. I'd replace them all to be sure.

Great advise thanks a bunch.

put a hose clamp under it temporarily?

Highway 49 in Lake Wylie. Lake Wylie boat sales has a certified Minn Kota repair man there. They have some parts in stock on the wall behind the work table. Check them out. Good luck. :cheers2

I just had to replace mine not because it broke but because I wanted to take off my "Lift Assist". Not a hard job, couple YouTube videos to show you how.
-
Just wandering why would you take lift assit off thing about buying a terrova just wandering
-
I have a aftermarket 360 bracket on shaft that's cause me to keep the head of motor about 6" higher than my old Terrova. The lift assist adds 4" more so now I'm about 10"" higher and my center 2 rods are hitting head of motor when Spyder rigging. Never had a problem retracting old Terrova.

Update for anyone interested.
The broken collar is an indication of a problem deeper in the power steer assembly. Minn Kota recommends a complete power steer head replacement. A complete replacement would be much cheaper than the labor for a rebuilt anyway. I did dig around some YouTube videos to see if I wanted to mess with it, but decided against it. I dropped it off at Triangle Trolling Motor today and was pleasantly surprised to find it was still under warranty. Bought it in November 2018, so 2 years Warranty was still valid. Should have it back by the end of the week.
