Caught in Idaho. Weight 3.8# Length 17".
I want to beat that. Where can I catch a 4#der here in Louisiana?
It can be black or white. I'm not a racist.

Not anywhere in S. LA, for sure! Poverty Point had a few 3 lbrs last year from what I remember.
Great catch, enjoy & congrats!
Poverty Point as mentioned, anything that gets replenished from Miss, Atch, or Red river, Toledo Bend ,stands a chance at giving up a 3# plus fish.
Our liberal 50 fish day limit has taken its toll on small lakes.

Haven’t see to many 4 pounders. Good luck with that.

Best chance of a 4lbr would have to be at someone's very well managed private lake!
Angola
The seaplane canal in Westwego La. were the first state record black crappie was caught.
Is that the supposed 6 lbr? I don't see it on the list anymore and I think there was some talk about it being a misidentified tripletail. Current black record is 3.84 from Poverty Point and 3.8 white from Lake Verret. So I'd say your odds of catching a 4 lbr is pretty slim! Poverty Point and Caney have a bunch on the list.
Now that you say that, about 20 years ago a friend told me the same thing. He made arrangements for me to go and fish the lake but something came up, I can't remember what. I should have gone. Do you know what arrangements it takes to fish on the prison property?
Thanks for the reply.

I fished Angola twice 30 years ago. We caught a few nice crappie and a few catfish. Was not worth the trouble getting permission and getting checked going and coming. Plus that one big guy by the pig farm kept whistling and cat calling one of my friends. No it was not me he was calling.
Ya gotta know somebody. Probably have to go with an employee. I feeshed it a few times back in da day "early eighties". I caught plenty of big feesh. To much hassle to go IMO.
Out There: Angola angling
It may well be a hybrid, however, hybrids have the same shape, spots and coloring as a black. They also have 7 dorsal spines like a black (whites have 6).
It takes a well-trained specialist or biological testing to distinguish between the two.

The Mississippi river has big feesh too. Hard to catch except during da spawn. Or a hoop net.
