Got into a few nice ones this evening using the tiny Diawa Minicast 40 on a Shakespeare Micro Series UL baitcaster. Tied on a Bobby Garland Baby Shad Live Minnow with a 1g Shimano Soare jig head. This is a small, very lightweight setup, but it was well up to the task of pulling in these slabs. What a blast!

Nice catch. I may have to pull out my Soare jig heads if I run out of Daiwa Gekkabijin jig heads.

I like those Diawas too. Can't seem to find any lately.
Very nice setup and nice size fish. I’m going to try some small shad baits tomorrow - the creek has finally settled down from Isaeia. That was a massive water dump for sure!

Nice little rig. Not much for the push buttons but I thought that was one of the better ones. I got excited at the title thinking it might be one like the open face I wore out years ago, called a mini mite. Great little reel. Really nice fish too.

When I was a much younger person (14~15), I found a Daiwa Microcast rod and real combo for 5 bucks at a yard sale. It was a back pack style deal, the rod broke down into 4 or 5 pieces and it all went into a little hard plastic case. It laid on a shelf for a couple of years until I was around 18 or 19 and discovered creek fishing. It was the only rig I had short enough for getting through the woods and creaks. It quickly became my go to rig. I fished it for years until it got broken. I was genuinely heart broken when I found my broken rod stuffed in a barrel at my friends house, and no one offered a reason for the damage.
It's probably not optimum since the hook is pretty small. But you saw the catches. I missed none and none got off. A soft rod and steady pressure on the fish helps. I use that jig head when targeting bluegills. But those darn crappie got in the way. rotfl
