I tried a few times a couple years ago and didn't do bad. It's a fairly deep lake and it seems like they stay close to brush. I didn't catch anything much bigger than what's legal to keep. It's really not far from me and if I had the time I'd give it a shot more often.
I use to live in Boone and fished it quite often. Never killed them. A good day was 5 or 6 pulling cranks. There use to be a guy on here called jerking lips that would do better than me. It is a tough lake. Drive on down to hickory. Much better but it can also be tough at times.
I have takes some good fish from Kerr Scott but started fishing hickory because its only 15 minutes from me .I have never caught a 2 pounder from hickory but wife has taken several.Tight lining minnows seems to work for me on hickory and a lot of guys pull jigs with good results

A kayak group from an NC forum used to have meets there. I don't know anything crappie specific but I know they got hybrids/striper there.
